When using TVersity the file isn't cached on the device you intend to view it and played there, it's played on the pc in which TVersity is installed and the image is streamed to the viewing device. What that means is that your pc is lacking the codecs to play those files while your tv has them.
Just install a good codec pack like

The same videos stream wirelessly from Tversity to another lesse known brand TV connected to a wireless media centre and I have no problems vieweing those videos. What I don't understand is that you are saying the PC does not have the right codecs if that is so why are they viewable on the wireless Media centre ?? -

I also don't understand which codecs are missing and where exactly do I need to install them

    cheers

If you set the profile to mpeg1 / mpeg 2 it will stream everything to an format that will be surely supported.

If you set the profile to mpeg1 / mpeg 2 it will stream everything to an format that will be surely supported. -

What on earth does that mean "set the profile to mpeg1/mpeg2" - where and how do I do this - I am no technician !

Surely you can be more specific

You know, the Support section of TVersity has a forum and a wiki , and they are free.

I am only having issues on my Samsung with Tversity (by the way I am running W7 - previously I had XP pro) - I forgot to tel lyou that I have lesser known brand TV downstairs connected via wifi to a WD Live Media unit and the streaming from my PC is flawless - So that tells me that I have set up my TVersity correctly - the issue I have that the smame program "TVersity" with the same current settings should also stream up to my Samsung TV which is connected to a blue ethernet cable - reason I have done this is that when I had xp on my PCand it was working fine but the transfer rate going through the bricks and concrete was failry slow -

As mentioned earlier the problem with the Samsung TV only became evdient since I upgraded to W7 - Now is that clearer for you ????

  • Azrael SRL Jul 08, 2010

Since the problem has appeared after you have switched to 7 it means that the settings are borked somehow. The only thing i can think of is to uninstall it, remove all config files left behind and reinstall again - this time follow the configuration protocol from the Wiki to the letter.
Please be aware that TVersity isn't officially certified on 7.

TV via DLNA-Playback AVCHD MTS/M2TS files on the big Screen TV via DLNA

Watch/Play Videos via DLNA-Connect variety PC/Camera/Device to TV via DLNA
Enjoy AVCHD M2TS recordings on DLNA certified TV via DLNA

How would you Enjoy/Watch/Play Videos via DLNA on a DLNA-certified TV? It would be perfect if your camcorder is also certified with DLNA. The most important element is the home network. However, there is a limited amount of AVCHD camcorders for DLNA. So you would need a PC connected to HDTV via home network, and watch them in the living room with your family and friends.

First of all, let's take a look at the supported file formats by DLNA.
Media Format:
Image: JPEG PNG, GIF, TIFF
Audio: LPCM AAC, AC-3, ATRAC 3plus, MP3, WMA9
Video: MPEG2 MPEG-1, MPEG-4*, AVC, WMV9

AVCHD files in .mts and .m2ts encoded in MPEG-4/AVC are supported for streaming through DLNA. However, when you play different files, there would be buffering for loading each file. Aunsoft Final Mate is the recommended AVCHD joiner for lossless DLNA streaming formats. You can join the clips into one single file, Connect and enjoy HD recordings on HDTV.

Part 1: Lossless join AVCHD for DLNA streaming on your networked PC

Step 1. Import AVCHD MTS/M2TS files to Aunsoft Final Mate.
Run Aunsoft Final Mate, and you can capture videos from the camcorder connected to PC through the pop-up wizard. Alternatively, for the videos on hard drive, just the "Add file path" and browse the folder with .mts or .m2ts files from hard drive.

Step 2. Join AVCHD for DLNA.
Click the "Create New Movie" button on Movies tab for lossless output, drag and drop clips from Camcorder tab or Resource tab to the Movie ID. When files are dropped into one movie ID, the clips will be joined as a single file. You can create another movie for different events, and enjoy AVCHD files via DLNA.

Step 3. Export MTS/M2TS file for DLNA streaming.
Click the "Export" button, and then the OK button. The MTS/M2TS joiner for HDTV will start combining short clips without delay/pause, retaining the native format as DLNA supported file.

Part 2: Enjoy AVCHD recordings on DLNA certified TV

Step 1. Add lossless videos to your designating folder on PC for sharing to DLNA certified TV.
In this process, certain PC share manager software may be needed according to different DLNA certified TV sets. Let me take SAMSUNG PC Share Manager as an example. After you install manager software, a simple way to share videos on your home network is to create and name specific folders on PC for DLNA certified TV to access. Create a new folder on your networked pc, and then name it accordingly, for example "Videos". Copy or load in converted HD videos to the folder you want to access.

PC Share Manager will only access those folders you designate as being shared. Here's how to do that. Select a folder you would like to share, or create a new folder for sharing.

Step 2: Enjoy AVCHD recordings in your DLNA certified TV
Accessing the joined AVCHD files is as easy as pushing the WiseLink button on your Samsung HDTV. Make sure that your media server or networked PC is turned on and the PC Share Manager application is running so that WiseLink Pro can find your shared files and folders.

You can access WiseLink Pro directly from your remote, or from the main menu. (The red Device button, located directly below the Info button on your remote control, lets you choose between one or more networked PCs and the WiseLink USB connector on the side of your Samsung HDTV.) Once you have started WiseLink Pro, you will see the main menu shown below.

Then you can choose the AVCHD files for playback on the big screen TV via DLNA, and share videos at home.

Tips:
1. Aunsoft Final Mate also supports 64-bits and 32-bits system.

2. In case that your HDTV does not support AVCHD format yet, you would need to convert AVCHD to TV supported format like .mpg. Just create movie for conversion in Step 2 of Part I on Aunsoft Final Mate.

How do we convert avi to mpeg?

The method for doing this is to use a piece of software such as WinAVI you will then be able to convert .avi files to an MPEG format. You will need to know which formats of MPEG your DVD player wil support such as MPEG, MPEG2, MPEG3, MPEG4.

Otherwise you should be able to purchase a new DVD player which will support multiple formats like, Dvix (.avi) WMV, etc, etc

How to play videos on Xbox 360 and stream videos to Xbox 360 – including Blu-ray, DVD movies, and videos in various file formats

theme100402.jpg

This tutorial intends to list out all the video formats supported by the Xbox 360, and explains all the available ways to play videos on Xbox 360 in HD quality or stream videos to Xbox 360. The videos include Blu-ray movies, standard DVD movies, and various other videos, such as ISO image file, Camera footages, MKV, MTS, VOB, M2TS, TS, TP, FLV files, etc.

Part 2: Different ways to play videos on Xbox 360

codecs100401.jpg

With regard to playback videos from a USB storage device, please note that the Xbox 360 will support as big of a storage device as you can format using FAT32, and the maximum size of any single file on FAT32 is 4GB. Besides that, the maximum file size for an AVI, MPEG-4 Part 2, and H.264 file that can be played is 4 GB as well. To play a file greater than 4GB on Xbox 360, you can use Windows Media Player 11 and the Zune software to stream videos from your PC to Xbox 360 console, and notice that the file format must be WMV only. Why is it so special with a WMV file? That maybe WMV is a codec developed by Microsoft.

Well, that is to say, to some extent, we can consider WMV as the optimal format to play or stream to Xbox 360. When you are gonna watch a Blu-ray/DVD movie, or an MKV video, or some files else that are out of the range of Xbox 360 workable formats, what is your solution? We usually make use of Pavtube Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate to do format conversion. Why do we choose it? Mainly because of its splendid output quality and its feature of an all-in-one application: a Blu-ray ripper, a DVD ripper, and a versatile video converter.

Part 3: How to convert Blu-ray/DVD and videos to WMV for play/stream on/to Xbox 360

We have mentioned in the above contents that the program we will use is Pavtube Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate. Go to find a step-by-step instruction from the following part.

total100402.jpg

STEP 1: Load Blu-ray, DVD or other video files into this program

Click "Add Video" to import video files, and click "Load DVD" to import Blu-ray or DVD files.

STEP 2: Select subtitle and audio track

Click on the pull down menu after "Subtitle" and "Audio" respectively to select your needed subtitle and audio track as your choice. Your selection can be reviewed in the preview window to the right hand of the main interface.

STEP 3: Select WMV as output format for Xbox 360

Click on the drop-down list at the opposite side of "Format", and then choose "WMV3 (WMV9) (*.wmv)" as output format.

wmv100402.jpg

STEP 4: Do optimal settings for the output WMV files

Click on "Settings" button, and afterwards you can adjust audio and video parameters including video/audio codec, resolution, video/audio bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channel on the popup window. To make it excellent for playback on Xbox 360, you can follow the optimal settings as below:

Video codec: wmv3 (the default one)
Resolution: 1920*1080
Bitrate: 150 kbps
Frame rate: 30 fps

Audio codec: wmav3 (the default one)
Sample rate: 48 khz
Bitrate: 320 kbps
Channels: 5.1 Channels

settings100402.jpg

Do remember clicking "OK" button to confirm your settings.

STEP 5: Click "Convert" button to start BD/DVD ripping or video conversion

Once finished, click "Open" button at the bottom to get the output WMV files for Xbox 360, which now is prepared for playback or streaming.

Part 4: How to stream videos to Xbox 360

Well, as we have mentioned in Part 2, there are at least four ways to stream videos to Xbox 360, from Windows Media Center, Windows Home Server, Windows Media Player 11, and Zune Software. Actually, lots of online articles have detailed the setups and operating steps, just check the following links to find the one which is most suitable for you:

I wanna use a phone line to get the internet and the music off my laptop to connect to my xbox 360...?

Phone line? As in dial up? No dice. You need, atleast, a DSL connection or faster to get Xbox live.

You can use a UPnP media server, such as TVersity to stream music from your laptop to the 360. What's cool about TVersity is that even though the music you want to play is an unsupported format for your Xbox, it will automatically transcode (make it into something the Xbox 360 can play).

If you have a broadband connection (e.g. DSL, Cable, Sat, etc.) you can have Tversity stream your favorite internet radio stream to your Xbox 360.

Download the latest Windows Media Player, Tversity or These other media servers, install, configure (TVersity is fairly easy to setup), and go look for the Tversity folder in your Music section in the NXE menu.

I wrote a how-to on setting up TVersity here if you need help setting it up.

Hope this helps,
Bill

Media streaming

If the .avi file was encoded using divX compression, you will need to install a codec. Try going here to install the xvid codec and run the avi file just like you would an mpeg. Hope that helps!
