Low battery warning

Hi,
I have a problem with my powershot SD10. I have 2 batteries, which I recharge and after taking a few pictures I get the low battery warning and the camera then switches off. I do not want to buy a new battery if the camera has a problem.

It's something with the camera. I have the same camera and the same problem. I bought 2 brand new batteries, charged them, and the very first thing the camera did when I installed the new batteries was tell me that they were dead!! Grrr....

As a workaround, when it tells you the battery is dead, just open the battery door, close it, and try again. Repeat if necessary. With my camera, doing this lets me use the same battery for days and days. The battery is NOT dead - it's just a faulty warning message.

If both batteries are about the same age, it's probably the batteries. Even lithium-ion batteries wear out after a while, and this camera has been out for nearly five years. You could try another battery for around $50 dollars. Or you could buy another camera. Prices are much better than they were even two years ago, and you get all the updated features.

Low battery warning with brand new batteries

Did the batteries come pre-charged? Most rechargeable batteries do not come charged. If they are not rechargeable batteries could they be shelf-dead? Do other batteries work in the camera?

I got this camera a few years ago for Christmas and unfortunatley it is the worst camera I've ever had as far as battery life. I can take 2 or 3 pictures and then it shows low battery. I've replaced new...

It seems there is some where inside the camera leakage.. Are you using Li-ion rechargeable batteries or AA batteries For previously cameras, always comes with AA batteries, and most of the battery are with low capacity.

I bought the best rechargable batteries and it still has low batt

Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info:

Canon camera a570is kills new batteries in a day

Hi

Firstly digital cameras are notoriously hard on batteries especially if you are using normal alkalines. NI-MH rechargeables are a much better option and usually provide around 300 shots before they require recharging as opposed to alkalines which can be as low as 40 to 60 shots.

The A570 is also known to have an overly sensitive low battery warning and gives this warning off well in advance of the battery fully loosing its charge. However it does also have a tendency to "eat" AA batteries.

Recommendation - if you are not already on rechargeable NI-MH batteries move over to using them and you will not regret it. Despite the initial outlay on buying the charger and rechargeable batteries themselves you will definitely end up saving in the long run.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.

I can not locate anything on the camera that tells me when the batteries are getting low. am i missing something?

there is no "bar graph" to show you battey condition. However, it will warn you when they are getting low. You can still take many pictures with after low bat. indicators are flashing. You can take like 300 pics. with the camera.
I spent a week in on vacation & took 100's of pics. & looked at them later, on the same set of batteries (Not rechargeable bat. either).

Battery life

The rechargeables are only meant to last a couple years maximum (pretty good that you got three out of them). Also rechargeable NiMH's have approximately 5 times the power of standard alkaline batteries. Alkaline batteries should only be used in emergencies in digital cameras as they will only last for a short while before they are drained (as you've discovered).

The obvious solution is that it's time to consider purchasing a new set of rechargeable NiMH batteries. Look on the package for a power rating of at least 2,500 mah. Avoid batteries that do not list the power rating as they are generally inferior batteries.

Brand New Canon Powershot A1000 IS battery power always low

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pictures in a digital camera. Some may also have reached their shelf life, and though right out of the package may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras that use AA's for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. If you read the camera's instruction manual concerning batteries, you may see the same recommendation.

Keep in mind rechargeable NiMH batteries will save you money in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may be angry with yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

Low Battery

Could be a few things.
1) What kind of batteries are you using? Try NiMH batteries, not alkaline.
2) If that doesn't work - the best batteries are lithium rechargeable.
3) If THAT doesn't work - you may have a bad battery sensor, in which case you'll need to bring it to the nearest camera repair shop and have them replace it for you - it's not a huge deal, but it's better than having to switch off the camera for an hour or so, take a few pix, than switch it on again, and so on.

Going through batteries abnormally quickly

Hi. I bought a used A70 that had that problem. I disassembled the outer body panels and found that a base panel assembly screw was too long, and was touching the LCD's ground cable, at the cable's tip. I changed the screw for a shorter one and it was settled. It never happened again.
