I cant set a photo to my desktop

  1. Find a photo you'd like to use as your computer's wallpaper. (The wallpaper is the background you see on the main screen where your icons are). You can use any photo you have saved or downloaded in your photo folder.

  2. Open your "MY PICTURES" (or wherever you have your photos stored) and find the picture you want to use.
  3. Right click on your chosen photo and then select "Set as Desktop Background" from the pop up menu. This should automatically change your desktop wallpaper to your photo.
  4. Customize the look of the photo by going into your Control Panel and then Appearance & Themes, followed by Change the Desktop Background.
  5. Choose how you want the photo displayed. You can either tile the photo, which means it will repeat the same photo several times. You can Center the photo which will have the photo appear only one time in the center of your screen. You can then also change the border color to compliment your picture. If you select the stretch option it will stretch the photo to cover your entire screen

First of all Start up menu and desktop icon doesn't appears because explorer.exe doesn't loads properly which is a system component file mandatory for the computer to load...Now the solution:-

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL simultaneously ONLY when you don't see any icons or the start up menu
Windows TASK MANAGER will appear.
Now click on FILE top left corner>>>NEW>>Type explorer.exe>>Click OK or enter

You will be able to see all the icons

Now the Software Counterfeiting problem..This happens when your copy of windows doesn't pass the Genuine test..Now this doesn't mean that the copy which your using is not genuine.Even if its not genuine i.e. pirated..there's a common solution for it.

All of the icons from the screen disappeared!

try to reboot your computer into safe mode.

To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
  2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
  3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
Then click start
click run
type in msconfig
uncheck everything under the startup tab except your antivirus
and reboot

My PC startup is fine then I get to logon screen. Each user account is different. I have WinXP SP3. I sometimes takes a little longer to hear logon sound, then pauses and finally the desktop comes up....

sounds like your computer is bogging down from to much bloatware. do a disk clean up. and uninstall any unnecessary programs. if this doesn't work you might have to take your computer in to have someone do an optimization on all accounts. that will fix your problem.

Desktop is blank

Shut your off. Wait 30 seconds. Boot the computer up into safe mode by pressing f8 before the Windows screen appears. Select Safe Mode and press enter. Once the desktop appears, restart your computer the normal way.

If it continues you should reinstall your operating system to fix the problem.

Desktop and start menu is missing what can i do

Is the desktop there with no icons?

Did you put the mouse cursor down where the system tray should be to see if it was on Auto-Hide?

Did you try and right click on the mouse with the cursor anywhere on the desktop to see if a pop-up menu appeared?

Sometimes when computer games are played the game changes the resolution on the monitor putting all the icons off screen, so by right clicking on the mouse and left clicking on properties the display properties will come up and when you go into settings you can restore them.

If none of this applies to your situation then
On boot up keep pressing F8. This will give you options, pick last known good configuration. and boot up.

If that doesn't work, press F8 on boot up and choose safe mode.

If this doesn't work then the Operating System is corrupt and will have to be repaired.

Boot with winxp cd and choose repair console.

Desktop icons does not appear

Have you checked the Documents and Settings folder? Basically, Desktop Icons are just shortcuts/links to actual programs.

Since you know which programs had shortcuts to the desktop, use the My Computer in the Start Menu to go to the Program Files and Windows directories to go to the actual program. Then "Right-Mouse Click" these programs, choose "Send to" -> "Desktop". A shortcut will be created on the desktop.

For the standard Windows Icons, use the right mouse click, select Properties, Go to Desktop, click Advanced then select My Computer, etc....
