Installing Umbutu

If you don't already have Umbutu, find a system where you cvan download it, it is a free operating system.

Format your hard drive, and after formatting, restart your computer with disk 1 in the drive.

Make sure you have your system set to boot from CD/DVD drive.

Hope this helps.

The answer is YES. You can load Win-7 from an external DVD player, after making it as first boot device. You must have get DVD as first boot devce and the internal hard disc to second boot device. Click out all boot devices to none, by entering into the bios window. You can get the bios settings, by press and hold the "Delete" key of your computer, as it first try to load. OK.

We can't format our netbook. it has Ubuntu Operating System... We wan't to convert it to Windows XP to perform faster.. ^^,

You can do this (assuming you have a Windows CD). This net book does not I assume have a CD drive?

Either way below will need you to have access to the internet and another laptop or computer:

You can install this in Two ways, the simplest and easiest, is to borrow (or buy) an external USB CD drive and install this by setting the bios to boot from the external CD. IF this net book has a sata hard drive, you will also need to get the Sata drivers from the website of the netbook manufacturer and have these loaded onto another cd or a usb pendrive, as when installing windows, it will at the F6 prompt, ask for these drivers. If you do not have these, windows will not be able to "find" the hard drive.

Installation after that is simple.

The other way (which i have used on several occasions) is more complicated and time consuming required booting from a usb stick (check that your bios supports this boot method)

Not sure which netbook you have, so accessing the bios as the netbook boots up may be by pressing the F1 or F2 or F10 or F12 keys

Rather than typing in a lengthy description of how to install by USB stick, here is a good guide:

Have an advanced user or Windows Technician install your operating system via repair install. He 'She will copy a Windows installation CD to a USB stick and boot your tiny machine from that medium. It has to be the same build (version) of the OS you're currently running and it requires that you have a COA affixed to your machine.

Hope this helps,

Is there an alternate boot device for hp mini?

Yes, you can boot from an USB device - connect an USB optical unit , and you will be able to install whatever OS you want on it. Or you could boot from an USB stick loaded with a special version of any Linux distro you want.

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook, when attaching a Virizon BroadBand stick to the netbook, after all Virizon software was loaded on to the net book, it lost everything but boots to a pretty blue screen...

Try pressing Alt+F10 on boot up and see if it will let you do a factory reset. Otherwise you will need to contact Acer for a recovery disk if you do not have one. They shouldn't charge you for it (maybe shipping?)

Just trying a stick of RAM shouldn't kill your system. Think dirt. Is there a chance that the contacts on both the laptop and RAM are dirty? Are you sure that you installed it correctly? It's easy to get it wrong in a laptop. It's real easy.

Instaled win7, but forgot to update the bios. So I'm trying to re install XP from the disc that came with the computer, update the bios and then re install win7. y problemis that i don't know how to boot...

Power on netbook, before booting up, press F9 or F10 or Esc Key(it varies on different netbooks), go to the boot options, change the boot order priority and make your DVD drive the first boot option and then your hard drive. now Put the DVD, save the settings. Now it will load the DVD and the set up screen will come.
