Please open the devvice manager and reinstall the sound drivers, if you have back up of the drivers in your system reinstall them. If this wont solve please open control panel,open back up/restore and set this to an earlier date to resume your laptop in the earlier set point where it worked fine. Since you have not specified the operating system, I have given my opinion for windows 7. However you can download the HP drivers from the site if you do not have them with you. Please visit the site and download for the model indicated. Good day
