Question about Edimax EW-7206APg (EW7206APG) 802.11b/g Wireless Access Point
My set up is like this:
Cable modem
V
Checkpoint Router (DHCP)
V V
PC XP Pro-SP2 Edimax EW7206APg
V
2xlaptops (XP Pro-SP2) + 1 PC Vista SP1
Problem is that every so often, all the PCs lose connectivity between themselves. Internet connection works, but you can't "see" the other PCs (either wireless or hardwired) on the local network. You can't even ping their IP addresses. Resetting the AP clears the problem for a day or two.
All the PCs take their IP addresses from DHCP on the router. DHCP on the AP is disabled.
If there was an actual hardware problem with the AP, I'd expect it to disrupt internet service too, so it's quite baffling.
Edimax support advised me to update the AP firmware, and drivers for the wireless cards - but that hasn't helped.
Any ideas?
Set all the PC's to have a manual IP rather then using the DHCP from the router.
Also set the Gateway and Preferred DNS on the network cards to the routers IP (IE 192.168.0.1)

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Mark - thanks for the advice. I configured the PCs as you suggested, but after a couple of days they "lost contact" again - although as ever, the internet connection works fine.
I've now turned off DHCP on the router, and enabled on the AP - there are occasionally "guest" devices that I can't really set static IPs for. Maybe that will make a difference.
