240V supplied when 115 selected

I inherited an old Dell, previous owner plgged it into 240V with 115 selected, is there a fix for this or do I need to replace the power supply? It appears that a cap has been blown, could there be more?

I have an old air compressor that I have replaced the motor magstart and pressure switch on the motor is a 220 / 240 volt 5 horsepower motor it also has a low pressure oil cutoff switch does anybody have a...

Control: L1-SS-P-O-OL-OL-M-L2 In series, L1 is line 1, SS is start/stop switch, P is pressure switch, O is oil switch, OL is overload contact, M is magnetic coil (solenoid), L2 is line 2.
The voltage of M must be rated for the control voltage, across the line voltage (240V) or of a control transformer voltage, e.g. 240v/24v. A control voltage would be wired across the line, to L1 and L2.
Power: L1-T1-OL-M1, L2-T2-OL-M2. Line one to Line 1 on contactor, T1 on contactor jumpered to OL (overload heater) and out the overload heater terminal M1 to the motor terminal 1. Same for line 2, Line 2 to L2 on contactor, T2 on contactor jumpered to OL (overload heater) and out the heater overload terminal to M2 motor terminal.
The heater overload relays needs to be chosen by the motor full load current, a chart is given with a motor starter on selecting heater size. If no chart is available, go 115% of the motor FLA (full load amps) to select a heater size. E.G. 25 FLA motor at 115% is 28.75a. Sorry, no schematic available now, draw your own from this info. If using 3 phase, add the third line as duplicating one other line1 or line 2

I want to run this compressor "RITIN RT2012" 2HP 12L (1.5kW) compressor. It's a 110V AC drive unit and I have 240V. Can I run it or do I need to convert the Power supply.

You can't just run it on the 240 Volt supply. Check the motor nameplate. If it says it is rated for 110/220 or 115/230, or 120/240 Volts, then it is capable of running at 240V. This will require a wiring change, and you may need a larger size power cord.
The electrical diagram should be on the motor name plate or under the cover to the electrical terminals on the motor.

Used computer needs reset for different owner. i just inherited an old dell laptop and would like to delete all signs of previous owner. i cant do anything though because i dont have the password, they...

If the cmos is password protected, then you must reset the cmos. The best way to remove any signs previous owners is to reformat or do a system restore. You ca do this with the disks that came with the computer, you should put the system restore disk in and be on your way. Just follow the on screen instructions and you should be all set.

Hope this helps

What does the red switch on the back of my dell dimendion e510 do

Don't! That's for foreign voltages. It should say 115 and 230. The 115 is for 120V systems while the 230 is for 240V systems. The actual voltage you get is usually a little less than ideal, so they design power supplies to accept a lower voltage.

your best bet is to check owneres manual and keep with what they suggest however when ordering you may want to ask for tech support to see what they say but i would stick with what you had especially if it worked great that way you dont want to overpower your tv if that is what it was used to ..if it ain't broke don't fix it i hope that helps
