My computer wont detect my external

I have a free agent desktop 1 tb external and my computer isn't detecting it but I had no problem with it before. I tried plugging it into a couple computers and it still doesn't show up. The computer doesn't detect any errors and the external is also making odd beeping noises that I never heard until now

Hello Friend, after reading your problem i suggest you that first check your connection cable it may be corroded or stretched try new cable this may be solve your problem.
If still you got same problem then go to manufacturer for solving this because this may be internal problem like your hard drive lens is not working or the driver card may gone this is done sometime because of attaching or removing hard drive unsafely like just plug in and out do not use safety remove option. So go to manufacturer of hard drive if it is in warranty then they may repair or even replace it.
Hope this will solve your problem.Best of Luck...

Take the drive out he caddy and plug it into another computer to see if it still works. If the drive is dead then you need another drive.

Connect some other USB device (keyboard? mouse? memory-stick?) to your desktop?
Are those devices detected? If not, then either:
* the USB port(s) on your desktop are damaged,
* the device-drivers for the USB ports on your desktop are not installed.

Try connecting it to a different desktop/laptop, to see if the Seagate works at all, on any desktop.

My notebook is not detecting this desktop drive (3.5'' 1 TB external desktop hard drive - verbatim). My other 500 GB external hard drives are properly detected.

Go to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management Then go into Disk Management. Hopefully you will see a drive with a capacity of about 480 GB (plus or minus), that's your disk.
Right click on it and select change drive letter and change the drive letter to something that isn't in use.
If that doesn't work or it doesn't show up, go into the Device Manager from the Computer Management screen and see if there is anything under disk drives with a yellow or red symbol next to it. If so, right click it, select uninstall, then unplug the disk drive and plug it back in.

Where can i download a driver for my free agent go 1 tb external drive from seagate

Free Agent Go is nothing more than a hard disk in an external case. From the pc's point of view it's just a generic Mass Storage device. As such it doesn't need a  special driver. Just plug it in and it should appear in My Computer as another partition/disk. After that it can be used just like any other partition. The only precaution is to always click the Safely Disconnect icon before unplugging it.

External hardrive not recognized

Try a different cable between the computer and the drive.

Disassemble the casing, and remove the "internal" disk-drive.
If the USB-to-disk-drive adapter has "died", it's possible that the
disk-drive itself is intact, and your data will be intact.

Connect the "internal" disk-drive as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer, and see if it can be detected.

If it's dead, and it's still under warranty, then exercise the warranty.

Hi there, I have a Seagate 250Gb external Free Agent disk that I want to put in to my laptop computer. Any ideas how to get in to the case without breaking it?

Hi,

I am Satya.

Hope this helps.

You can connect the Seagate 250 Gb external Free Agent disk by using a Usb connector and connect it to the USB port of your Laptop. In this way you can connect the disk to your Laptop computer without breaking it.

Windows will automatically detect the the drive and can be browsed through Windows Explorer as a separate drive.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.
