Well since we don't know what model presario you need help with, go to this site and search for tech manuals. once you find the model read what the manuals are for e.g. service manual.

Read carefully these might be multi-part manuals 0-5

read carefully the printing on the page is small and it is easy to overlook the "To download file please click here"

I replace the screen on my gateaway mt 6916 and cant install the video controler driver

Instructions

1

Prepare the laptop for disassembly. Shut down the laptop completely, then wait a few minutes before removing the battery and unplugging the AC adapter. Turn the laptop over and lay it down on a flat surface so that the battery area is facing away from you and the hard drive is located at the bottom left corner.
2

Remove the hard drive cover. Remove the two screws located on the left side of the hard drive cover, then lift the cover to remove it completely from the unit.
3

Remove the memory cover. Unscrew the eight screws holding the memory board in place; this cover is located above the Gateway product sticker.
4

Disconnect the Wi-Fi adaptor. Remove the Wi-Fi cover by unscrewing the single screw holding the Wi-Fi adapter in place; this is located directly above the hard drive. Remove the two cables connecting the wireless card to the adapter and snap the card out of the holder.
5

Remove the memory modules. Gateway computers typically have two memory modules located in the center of the motherboard; lift these out gently with your fingers and set them aside.
6

Release the heat sink. Unscrew the four screws around the heat sink assembly; this unit is located to the left of the ventilation fan and is surrounded by a copper base. Carefully lift the heat sink and the cooling fan off the unit and unplug the cable attaching it.
7

Remove the CD/DVD drive. Unscrew the small screw located to the left of the CD/DVD drive, then push the drive out to remove it from the laptop completely.
8

Remove all screws around the base of the laptop. You will now be left with a total of 18 screws located around the edge of the base of the laptop, and in between the stickers and hardware components in the center. Remove all of these carefully and set aside in a safe place.
9

Prepare the cover for removal. Turn the laptop up on its edge so that the back of the laptop is facing you; you will see two screws on the hinges of the computer. Unscrew these and set them aside.
10

Remove the hinge cover. Open the laptop so that the screen is laying flat; use the flathead screwdriver to pry open the hinge cover and pull it off gently with your fingers.
11

Remove the keyboard. Lift up the keyboard and reach behind it to release the cable. You will need to tug gently on the cable to unhook it from the motherboard.
12

Unhook the LCD screen from the notebook. Unplug the Wi-Fi antenna cables located on the right side of the motherboard directly under the screen, then unplug the video cable located directly under the hinge cover. Remove the pair of screws located to the left and right of the LCD screen and gently lift the LCD screen off the notebook's base unit.
13

Remove the system board. Turn the base unit over and unscrew the five screws securing the motherboard to the base. Two of these are located near the hinge cover, and two are located beneath and to the right of the hard drive unit. The fifth is located a few inches below the top right edge of the laptop.
14

Disconnect the motherboard. Lift the system board, then unhook the cable connecting it to the base unit.

My laptop's hinge is broken but the connectivity is still on. Can I replace only the outer case? If so where and how much would it cost?

Hi,

It is not the outer case only, the HP/ Compaq laptops outer case is very thin fiber, from inside you've a metal hinge and bar holding it. You can take it to a local store to get it repaired. I would suggest if you have HP Accidental Damage Protection (ADP), you should call HP. They will replace or repair all accidental damages.

Shrey

HP COMPAQ Presario SR5510F this is the model number for a desktop. There is no way to fix this problem unless you can provide more acurate information both to the problem, and the correct machine that it applies to.`

How do you remove the screen on an MD 97860? The hinges are part of the screen.

As with any laptop, you must first remove the casing on the lower half. This will reveal all the internals, including your next step. Youll notice the laptops Hinges are held by the casing. You simply unscrew it, remove it, unclamp it, whatever your laptop does to keep the screen attatched, and unplug the screen.

BUT! You must remove the casing. All laptops are designed to hold one thing by putting together 4 others. Its like a puzzle.

Hope this helps!

How to take apart the case of a Compaq Presario C501NR Notebook PC so i can see the motherboard?

Hello,

According to HP, the C500 guide isn't readily available but you can use the C300 manual listed here http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00753552.pdf

You will need to start with the Removal and Replacement Procedure section.

Thanks

My hinge screws are broke on my display on my Presario 730US laptop. I can't find any documentation on how to get to the screws

basically the same way I fixed my daughters laptop. I found 2 screws holding the button cover in place, then gently prying it popped out which gave me access to the screws. The screws on this laptop holding the hinges are torx screws, where as my daughters newer HP laptop was all phillips screws.

Screen is blank unless a flashlight is shown on the screen. Prior to this happening laptop was dropped and the left hinge broke off. Could something else have broken off?

sounds like the backlight system of your screen is broken. You may have to take it to a laptop repair shop, preferably an authorized service center to have it fixed

Hinges too tight on laptop

This is the exact opposite problem many laptop owners face. There are a few causes, and a few soloutions.

  1. Remove the covers from the hinges and put a small drop of sewing machine oil into where the 2 hinges meet. Open and close the lid a few times to massage it in.
  2. One of the hinges could be slightly bent. The oil method above will help that aswell until it wears into it's new position.
Try that and see how you go. Do not use CRC or any spray lubricants if you can avoid it. There is a huge chance of some of the spray going inside the laptop.
