Adding remote control activated ''mute'' to TV headphone jack

How can I mute the headphone jack on an Insignia 22'' 1080p led HDTV 22E430A10?
The sound quality from internal speakers is poor so I want to add external speakers via the headphone jack with does not mute via ''mute'' button on remote control.
The remote control will mute the internal speakers but not anything plugged into the phone/headphone jack.
Must I open up the TV and make an external speaker/amplifier audio connection to the TV internal speaker connections? If I need to do this please suggest how to open up the TV to gain access to the internal speaker terminals.

Generally when the head phone jack is inserted the speakers will get disconnected automatically.

If you are going to use external amplifier you can try the AV sockets. Opening the TV you may require the special screw drivers some times.

I can't get sound through my headphones on my Bravia kdl-52xbr5 tv. First time I have tried to hook up the headphones which are sharper image wireless

I take it the headphones are charged up and known to be in good working order? Are you using the 3.5mm headphone jack on the side of the TV or the white and red RCA jacks labeled AUDIO OUT (VAR/FIX)? If using the headphone jack the TV should shut off the internal speakers and output to the headphones. If using the mentioned RCA jacks you need to go into the audio options settings and set to Audio System. Also under audio settings, Audio Out, you can pick Fixed or Variable. If you opt for Fixed you will use the headphones to adjust the volume. If you opt for Variable you can control the headphone volume and muting using your TV remote control. Just make sure you have the headphone volume turned up adequately.

I bought a external Speaker and hooked it up to the TV but i get no sound.

The connections on the back of the TV are a little confusing. The red and white RCA connections are for audio in to the TV as from a game computer.

The choice for connections out of the tv to a amplified speakers are the digital coax out. And the headphone jack.

The best quality audio would be from the digital.

Select menu on the remote to set up the options for audio features.

I have an evotel tv and just turned it on the picture is there but no sound can you tell me why this is

Look for any loose contacts in RC jack, cable, connector. Try changing the input device to some other and see whether you can get sound. Try using a headphone, if the TV has the socket. Look for any jammed buttons on remote and/or on control panel, especially that off volume up/down/mute.

As an idea, I was thinking as I read your post, I thought that this would be an ideal application for a pair of "Wireless/Ired Headphones", you could plug these into the headphone socket, and then use these to hear your sounds, these units have a mute on board.
You could indeed wire it into, the unit going in through, the back of the, set. You could wire it up, but in reality, it would be better to use a third party device and that way would not compromise any warranty.

Have new lcd hdtv. Have old headphones can they

Yes. 2 possibilities:
1 - the new tv has a headphone jack - just plug them in.
2 - no headphone jack - buy a RCA to phone jack adaptor, plug it in the audio line out RCA connectors, plug the headphones into it and mute the tv.

No sound through the headphones

The way the headphone jack works is:

plug your headphones in and then mute the television using the remote.

While the TV is muted you can still use the volume up and down controls to adjust the volume through the headphones. I find that having the volume at 60-75% is more than loud enough on the headphones.

Just be careful when you unplug the headphones and take the TV off of mute, if your volume levels are still turned up you will be in for a jolt :)
