Question about Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

I dropped my Canon PowerShot SD1000 in water and tried to revive it by putting it in rice and blow drying it. Still didn't work. Is there any hope for my camera?

Chances are that it's unsalvageable. Water just leaves too many deposits to remove, and can cause all kinds of electrical and physical problems. You can try to take it apart and clean it as best you can, with alcohol, but it's usually a futile effort. Sorry to relay the bad news.

If it was powered on when wet unfortunetly that usually kills them. Sometimes if they get dunked and you let them dry out for several days they will sometimes work again. Also if it was dunked in anything other than fresh water that makes it worse as far as survival.
Basically all you can do is yank the battery out, open all the hatches etc and put a fan on it and let it dry out for a week or so. If it works then you got lucky if it doesn't come back then its time for a replacement.

Though the problems seems to be difficultt, you may be lucky at times. So remove off the battery and carrefully open the set. use alcoho, to clean all parts and use a good hair dryer to help with the mop off of the moisture. If you can clean the PCB of any traces of water electrolysis. mostoften since the circuit is low power , you could come our lucky. repeat the process, allow for time to dry , use a small pin to clean the water caught into the IC leads, Semiconductor leads. Use a low wattage soldering iron to resolder all the visible points of the PCB. Do this carefully. I hope you get lucky. Good day

I wish to clarify that blowing dry is not fryin but you are assisting with a hot air to expell excessive moisture stuck around. Even if the electronics is soldered carefully , the moisture trapped beneath the components will be expelled. So it is important to know your job and not to over it. However this is only an way to enhance time, otherwise leaving it open, in the sun , etc can help. Hope you get lucky. Good day

The rice is supposed to dry it out. If you can get the back off you can dry some of the inner components with a lint free cloth. Be very careful not to break or bend the pins that hold the battery in.

How to dry an mp3 / mp4 device thet you spilled water on or dropped in water !

Don't lose hope yet!

You should do the steps bellow as soon as possible.

-Disconnect from outlet (if connected).
-Remove the battery (if possible).
-Dry it with a towel.
-Cautiously! with a hairdryer blow it dry! even inside the compartment, if you have access. Have patience! keep on for few minutes!
-Putting in raw rice for a day or two can help to dry it further.

Even if these steps do not help to revive it, they will definitely maximize your chances for your device to be accepted by the manufacturer to be repaired under warranty/guaranty!

Good luck!

I accidently dropped my mp3 player in the bath, it is now dead, doing nothing, can it be revived? Many thanks.

Hi santhosam123

Chances are its toast, but it is worth a try...sometimes it works
***************************************

If you ever find that you have to deal with a wet device, don\'t just abandon it.
Instead, try the following method to repair the water damage:

DO NOT TURN IT ON!
Take it apart as much as you can. Take out the battery, the memory card and whatever else can be easily disassembled. (Just make sure you can put it back together.)
Store the parts in an air-tight container covered with either dry rice, silica gel packets or kitty litter. These will absorb the moisture from your electronics device, leaving it water-free.
If no rice, gel packets or kitty litter are available, try using a vacuum to suck the water out.
DO NOT blow-dry the parts, it will only force the water farther in and cause more damage.
Please take time to rate me.

My Canon powershot SD1000 screen isn't working. Iv'e charged the battery but when I turn the camera on, the screent is black. It won't take any pictures

It's very likely the CCD sensor that needs to be replaced. If you need to have it serviced, this place is excellent for the Powershots and not much at all if you need to have one fixed: www.camerasandparts.com
Before having it fixed, press the DISP button first and make sure you just didn't turn the display off. If you end up needing service for the Canon, that place above is really great for these cameras.

Flash Does not work. canon sd1000

This happened to my SD1000 and I followed the step by step instructions shown here:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Replacing+Canon+PowerShot+SD1000+Broken+Flash+Unit/7778/1

and when I got to step 15, I found that the small plug that connects the flash to the camera body had been disconnected when the camera had been dropped. I simply pressed the connection back in tight and reassembled the camera - and it works. Maybe this happened to yours too??

My camera got wet i tried to dry it out with blowdrier it still wont work

First of all, you never want to try to dry out an electronic device with a blow dryer. Hopefully you did not apply enough heat to damage any of the sensitive parts. You also never want to try to turn on an electronic device that has gotten wet. You should remove the battery immediately and dry off any water on the exterior of the device. Place the device in a bowl of rice for 24-48 hours. Many times this will pull out the moisture. I dropped my cell phone in the pool last week and it certainly saved me. You can also use Damp Rid or Silica gel if you happen to have them.

Wet cell phone

You should remove the back plate and the battery.

Let them sit in the sun or warm dry area (garage), dont put it in the oven or near it, for 2 days.

Try booting it up.

If you have tried to start it after is was soaked, this may not work.

Best of Luck.
