I replaced the STK392-110 convergence amplifiers. When I turned the TV on, the power kicked off after about 3 seconds and the power light blinks 3 times. The first time I turned the power on, I could smell something burning. Also, there is a resistor that is located on the board at the +18V Convergence that is overheating when I turn on the TV.

Re: Convergence and Power
I would suggest to double check your solder joints. Since you mention that a resistor is overheating, you could have shorted 2 leads when soldering the STKICs.
Try using a magnifier tool with magnification 2X to 4X to locate any possible solder defects.

Recheck you solder connections on the IC's if all is well then unpluged the power connector going or nearest to the convergence circuit. If power stays on then one of you IC's are faulty or you may have a bridged solder joint, where two of the soldered pins are touching each other, Try cleaning all the pins on the board with a toothbrush and alcohol to remove any solder beads that you may of missed, causing a short on the pins..If the set was working before you replaced the IC's then just retrace you steps and make sure all plugs and connectors are in their right place..
The convergence amplifiers need to be replaced.
This set may have one big amplfier chip rather than two.
The chip(s) will be on a big aluminum heatsink.
There may be bad resistors related to these chips, as well as one or two fuses that are open.
I've replace many convergence amplifiers.
If you have good soldering skills and ac test fuses and resistors, you can do the repair yourself. Caution that even with the set unplugged, there could still be dangerous voltages present on some components.
Search this site for specific convergence repair related to your set.
No there are no quick fix options for this fault. The convergence amplifiers operate similar to a high power audio amplifier, so if there is an impairment anywhere in the system, it will result in distorted audio, or in the case of television convergence amplifiers, one or more colors won't align. The convergence power pacs need to be replaced and the out of tolerance precision resistors located near the power pacs need to be carefully checked and replaced as necessary. And the power supply fuse links to the power pacs checked and replaced as needed.
It is also possible that there are root faults that cause the amplifiers to go bad which include bad connections or a bad digital control module. This repair is possible for anyone having basic electronics knowledge and soldering skills. After the above repairs are performed it may be necessary to perform the static convergence realignment procedure using the outer cross hairs as you mentioned, and realigning them.
My Tv was doing the same thing, and I had to unplug the set in order to get rid of the blinking light. And what i did was to turn the power on and as soon as i saw the picture i turned it off, I did this 5 times and on the 6th time I let it power and tv stayed on, however something did happend to my set, i found that my convergence was wacky. Tried to center convergence but i could not center the blue. Turns out, i think the problem is with my Convergence ICs that went bad. I can still watch tv but the Image has blue color shadows and the picture slightly bows inwards from top and bottom. To sum this up, i will need to replace 2 ICs, IC C5AA00000203, and this should fix my problem. I will do this repair myself, each part is about $41..
Let me know what happened to your problem.
This sounds like a bad convergence board.
You didn't mention the model but I bet its a samsung rear projection HDTV.
If the convergence board fails, you can diagnose by pulling the power leads to the 3 convergence circuits, then power on the tv, if it lights (picture will have very bad convergence) then that is most likely the cause.
You can usually buy a new convergence board for about $80-$100. Look on eBay by the make and model of the TV.
And its real easy to replace.
