when I use my remote it only opens and closes the tray. I cannot shut off the dvd player or anything else. This happened before and someone told me to do something with the remote but I can't remember what. please help

I would open the remote and clean the contacts under the rubber overlay that are the buttons with alcohol then put it
back togeather and try it agan.
it this works good for you if not , you might need to replace the remote.

first thing to do check the remote control open up and then clean the board with a pencil eraser . fix it back then test it. if it still doesn't work look for a another remote with a same model. good luck
