Question about D-Link DSH 16 (DSH-16) Networking Hub

1 Answer

Reconecting the cables to the hub does not make a network

We paint the office, so we take out the cables from the D-Link DSH 16 hub. When we reconnect the cables, some computers does not have access to the network anymore. Do the connection order matters? How can we rearrange the network?

Not necessarily! As long as a lan cable is connected on the wan port of your hub and the other end goes directly to the modem, the connection is correct. The remaining port will be left for the lan cables of the computers. No orders needed. Just make sure that lan cables was properly seated on the port. The LED blinking in the hub will tell you if its working or communicating with your computer. Find it, when the LED is not lit or blinking, the lan cable is not connected properly on the hub (or the other end of the lan cable is disconnected from the lan card of the computers).

If all cables are connected properly and still cannot connect to the network, you may need to refresh the name of the workgroup on the computers that cannot connect on the network,

How? Right click on My Computer.
Select Computer Name
Click Change to change the name of the workgroup that is being use by other computer. Delete the old name if the same and retype.
Restart the computer and try to connect using network neighborhood.

How do I configure My 10 Computers to connect internet, I am using an ADSL WI-FI Modem+Router(ADSL DSL2730U).

This is an unmanaged switch so it is very simple. Plug a network cable from each PC to the switch and plug a network cable from any port on the switch to an available port on the router. That is pretty much it.

Hoe do i system link

Let's say you have a xbox system in the living room and one in the bedroom both playng sr2. On the back left hand corner above the a/v (audio, video) cable there is a usb port (If you have a wireless adapter you'll need to remove it to access it. You would connect 2 consoles using a usb cable and possibly up to 16 consoles on a network (sr2 allows for a system link between 2-12) now to network you would need an ethernet hub or switch with enough ports to connect the consoles together or each individual console would need its own wireless network adapter to play online. The networking hub would be for a large game room with multiple tv's and console's to group together and play. hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions

I'm looking for a manual for a d-link dsh 16

There does not appear to be a downloadable manual on D-Link's website for this particular hub. But if you browse to and click on the Support Resources button to the right of the DSH-16 description. and then click on the Knowledge Base link, you are presented with some folders to expand. Look over the Product Specs, Troubleshooting and General Networking categories.

The D-Link webpage for this device does not present a direct link to this data. That's why I had to present the steps to getting to the information rather than simply presenting you a link.

When the computers are powered up and connected to the D-Link hub,
the computers that are connected to the hub will light up the various LEDs on the hub to indicate which port on the hub is active. Also that computer's network card Link LED light should be on to indicate it is connected to the hub.
If the hub's LED is off and the corresponding computer's network card Link LED is off then the network cable is faulty, or the network card is faulty (or the network card driver needs installing) or the port on the hub and/or hub is faulty.
To determine which item is faulty, swap network cables around, swap computers to different ports on the hub etc
