Hello my name is Heath it will be my pleasure ot assist you. You can check the capacitor with the power off you will need an electric meter that checks microfarads. On the capacitor ther is a microfarad rating looks like a uf together if it matches within 10% its okay and the motor is bad.

03 beetle 2.0L.new waterpump and thermostat hardly any heat.return line going to bottle has no cooland comming out.the steel fiting on the side of the head seems blocked..is there a check valve in it

Turn on the heat in the car to full heat an full fan. Remove radiator cap start car and continue to fill overflow bottle/tank until heater starts to blow warm that's when the thermostat begins to open. Keep an eye on matter level -make sure it's full. Replace cap a wait 6/7minutes open cap slowly and with rag and gloves it will be hot. Slowly -continue to add more water. Until full. Replace cap. Shut off motor and wait until it cools about 45 minutes. Remove cap again and add water as needed. Then run
Motor making sure it is full. One more thing most important anytime filling radiator always turn heat on first. If not you will ruin your radiator as they don't swell open they swell closed as to not let water move thru it's internal passages.

I have a 200 Pontiac Montana and today it overheated into the red! Not sure why! I also don't have heat unless the RPMs are above 200. My fan don't kick on unless the air is on. 2 months ago I...

With the car running because it reduces the back pressure have someone that knows how to do it remove the cap from the radiator and see if the radiator is full, not the bottle but the radiator itself. If the antifreeze is not moving from the bottle to the radiator it will overheat. Not having heat unless you rev the engine makes me think the radiator is either not circulating the water or it is low.

REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.MAKE SURE COOLANT NOT LOW.IF ALL IS GOOD CHECK FOR LEAKING WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP.MAKE SURE COOLING FANS RUNNING.IF ENGINE RUNNING HOT WHILE SITTING LONG TRAFFIC LINE AND COOLANT NOT RUNNING.CHECK COOLANT FAN RELAYS AND FUSE.IF ALL IS GOOD HOT WIRE MAKE SURE COOLING FAN MOTOR GOOD IF COOLING FAN DONT RUN WHEN HOT WIRED FAN MOTOR BAD.IF FAN MOTOR OKAY AND FUSE RELAYS GOOD YOU HAVE FAULTY COOLING FAN WIRING.YOU COULD HAVE BAD ENGINE COOLANT SENSOR OR FAULT IN ECM CODE SCAN TO CHECK THEM BOTH.CHECK ENGINE OIL.LOOK LIKE MILK SHAKE YOU HAVE LEAKING HEAD GASKET.IF OIL LOOKS OKAY.YOUR ENGINE BLOCK, RADIATOR AND HEATER CORE NEED FLUSHING.

My car is running hot within 1 mile of me driving it...my fan kicks on when it wants to....i need to know how to fix it myself

replace coolant temp, sensor and check for a bad fan relay. check relay first ! to test the fans, run a wire from positive on battery to positive on fan connection. then run a wire from negative battery post to neg, connection on fan. if the motors are ok. the fans will turn on. and make sure you have 12 volts going to fan motors. check relay first!! the fans on a typical engine only work when idling or going slow to prevent it from heating up. have a good day!! make sure there is no coolant leaks anywhere!! this will cause it to overheat also. if need be replace coolant pressure cap on overflow, might not be holding pressure.

Condensor fan went out on 1999 ruud heat pump.

Did you try pushing in the contactor to see if the unit will even run?

The fan on the bryant high efficient heat pump moves very slow or not at all

Hi, this is a 3 ton unit. It may or may not have a variable speed fan. You are saying it turns very slow or just stops. I believe you either have a problem with the run capacitor, or you are loosing this motor. They are putting variable speed blower motors on some units now, but if you are talking about your condenser fan motor, it may have a head pressure control to speed up this motor when the ambient temperature is higher and slower when cooler, but to stop when running indicates a motor or run capacitor problem. Check the cap. for oil leaks, swollen and deformed, burned terminals. If you find this, replace it. Remove the fan guard and carefully with the power off after it has ran for a while touch to see how hot the body of the motor is. If it is to hot to touch, you are loosing this motor. If you have a clamp around amp probe or know someone who may, you can look at the data plate to see what this motor should be drawing as far as amps and compare your readings to this. You will know for sure doing it this way.

SOUND LIKE ENGINE RUNNING HOT.MAKE SURE COOLING FAN TURNING ON. WHILE ENGINE IDLING WATCH TEMP GAUGE AS THE TEMP CLIMB COOLING FAN SUPPOSE TO TURN ON IF NOT.CHECK FAN FUSE AND RELAY. IF BOTH GOOD HOT WIRE IT. NO RUN REPLACE FAN MOTOR IF FAN MOTOR DO RUN. YOU COULD HAVE A FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR SHORT IN FAN CONNECTOR OR WIRES. CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50/50 MIXTURE OF WATER AND ANTIFREEZE.TO BE ON SAFE SIDE REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND PRESSURE CAP.

When the unit is in heat mode is the fan on the outside supose to run? Capacitor on outside and inside have been replace fan was running when capacitor was first replaced.

Hi, and the outdoor condenser fan should not be on at all in the heat mode unless this is a heat-pump!! So, I can see that this is a 3-ton Carrier split system and I haven't pulled up any information on it, only if I need to. But if the indoor unit runs on natural gas/propane, this would not be a heat-pump and the outdoor fan would run only in the cooling cycle. So, if it is not gas fired it is a heat-pump, and yes the outdoor unit should be up and running all year around. On a heat-pump you will have what is called a reversing valve in the refrigerant system that directs the flow of freon in the right direction for the season you are in. Most all heat-pumps will have a heat strip package installed in unit for emergency and aux. heat if compressor lets say fails. You're thermostat will have on it a selector switch, you will see on it these labels, Aux., emergency heat, auto/on/off/heat/cool. You will know from what I have just went through with you what you have. Forgive me for such a long explanation as I like my customers to understand more about there units in question. I could have just said yes or no and thanks? Doesn't work like that for me. I hope this has helped you out. One thing, If you determine this is a heat-pump and the fan is not on when in heat, you may have lost this condenser fan motor? You say both run caps. were replaced, and normally when you loose a run cap for a motor they will open internally, leak, buldge ect. So if this is taking place, if you can yourself take a look at the run cap. Also, make sure you have 220 volts to condensing unit. If not, check breaker probably a 30 amp double pole to see if it has tripped. You will have a disconnect box at the unit and inside there will also be 2 fuses. If you see only a pull out square connect, the fuses are still there but in behind the cover. If you have power and can hear the compressor come on but fan does not, I am positive you will have A faulty run cap, or faulty motor. Kill power to unit and try and slide a metal coat hanger down to prop or blade to see if it spins freely. If it is hard to turn bearings are froze up. If the capacitor seems to look ok, and the motor does spin free, It still may have open windings. Do these checks I have asked of you on power to the outdoor unit. If all is good, Stand in front of the unit and have someone turn the stat on for what season you are in. Lower or raise temp a ways above or below room temp. You should her the contactor close and compressor will start along with the condenser motor. If compressor starts and motor does not, then I would say it has failed and or cap again. When a motor is replaced, the run cap must always be replaced to!! Please get back to me and keep me posted. I will wait to hear what has happened. Good Luck.
Sincerely,

High Pressure cutoff

YOUR OUTDOOR FAN MOTOR SHOULD NEVER SHUT OFF IN THE AC MODE. IT IS SUPPOSED TO SHUT OFF IN THE HEAT MODE WHEN ITS IN DEFROST. IF THE UNIT IS RUNNING IN COOL AND THE OUTSIDE MOTOR QUITS ,THE COMPRESSOR WILL QUIT SOON AFTER. EITHER THE RUN CAPACITOR FOR THE FAN IS BAD OR THE FAN MOTOR ITSELF IS BAD, IF CAP IS GOOD THEN THE MOTOR IS At FAULT. THE OUTDOOR PRESSURE SWITCH CAN ALSO OPEN IF THE INDOOR FAN MOTOR FAILS IN HEAT OR THE FILTER IS PLUM NASTY in heat OR THE INDOOR COIL IS PLUGGED UP in heat.. THE PRESSURE SWITCH USUALLY TRIPS AT 400 TO 425 SO ITS WORKING CORRECTLY. YOU MAY BE CONFUSING THE ISSUE SAYING THAT THE AIR IS HOT AND COLD INSIDE. IT IS COLD WHEN AC IS RUNNING HOT WHEN HEAT PUMP IS RUNNING IN HEAT BUT ESSENTIALLY not cold or hot if compressor isn't running, but a lot of folks describe the lack of cold air as hot when the compressor isnt running. but it basically is warm or house air temp.you test the capacitor with a capacitor tester or take it to motor shop and let them test it. odds are its a 5 , 7.5 or a 10. it should test within 10 % of rated value . ask for a RESCUE brand replacement motor. they are great ,reversable etc.carefully oil and sand the motor shaft and note exactly where the blade was located in relation to the grill so you get it back just the same. usually they wire up black to a leg of 220 power. white to the other leg of 220 power. brown and brown with white stripe to the capacitor.you can also pull whole fan shroud assembly on some units and take whole thing to motor shop and let them test motor cap, replace and all you do is return to unit and connect two power leads,
