Whynter sno model arc-13W/S stopped working

Everything was fine for about 4 hours, then it just quit, display lights are still on. I reset the breaker, which was fine, but that didn't help.

Could be a lot of things - but I'm wondering if when you are checking the 'fuse at the plug-in,' are you actually checking the outlet for voltage?

I would check the outlet for voltage; i.e. plug in a hair dryer or something to the outlet and see if it (hair dryer) comes on. If it doesn't then I would check your breakers and see if you have a breaker tripped. In homes - you can usually go to your breaker panel (usually in the garage or a store room, i.e. pantry, hot water closet, sometimes in hallways behind doors) and find the breaker panel.

On a small unit like yours it would probably be a 15 or 20 amp single throw (like a light switch) breaker. If it's 'tripped' it can be in a position that resembles half on and half off, or it can look completely 'off.'

Remember - if it's a 'tripped breaker' - just re-setting the breaker might not solve the problem. There is usually a reason for a breaker tripping - although they do on occasion 'trip' for no reason.

In any event - if it's a tripped breaker - i would reset it and then if it happened again, either within a few minutes/or an hour - or within a day or two - then I would suspect something wrong with the unit and I would need more information, or you might need a qualified technician to trouble shoot the unit.

Note: if the breaker is tripped and when you reset it - it immediately 'pops back off.' Leave it off and call a tech - because you have a direct short and it will have to be trouble shooted.

good luck!

SOURCE: the arc-13w/s was working fine for about 4 hours

Ours just did the same thing 6/28/2010. And then it wouldn't turn back on. Try draining the water tank. Plug is on the back at the bottom. Ours is running again!! I'd jiggled and sloshed the unit and it came back on briefly. After we drained it, it stayed on. FYI: We rolled our unit over to the top of the stairs so we could get a container under it without having to pick up the unit. Much luck to you!!

SOURCE: Brand new Whynter ARC 12

Check the positioning of the water bucket It may be slightly out of place and is not triggering the switch. If that doesn't solve the problem. Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF, unplug the unit for 12 - 15 minutes. Then plug it back in and turn the Master Switch ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the controls and it may have reset itself.

If none of the above soled the problem contact the manufacture's Customer Support or Tech Service Dept.

Hope this helped you to solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

This is due to the detrioting condition of the display, sometimes an even lite press with fingers on the display may help. This happens due to loss of contacts inside due to poor quality of display or aging.

I HAVE A FEDDERS AIR CONDITIONER MODEL AED24E7F-C THIS UNIT TRIPS THE RESET BUTTON ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE IT RUNS FOR HOURS OR DAYS ON END AND THEN TRIPS. IT TAKE AWHILE AFTER THAT BEFORE I CAN RESET...

The reset button is part of the cord. The cord has built in arc detection. This is a complex circuit that monitors the unit and senses potentially dangerous sparks or arcing inside the internal components of the A/C (motors, switches, etc.) It sounds like the problem is getting worse - as they usually do. Sparking and arcing happen when dirt, corrosion, etc. accumulates and can result in pitted contacts. All of these conditions only make the sparks and arcs worse. Page 1 of the manual (left column) says this:

If the Arc Detection Device has tripped, the
reset button will pop up.

Follow these steps to reset the Arc Detection
Device:

1. Unplug unit from electrical outlet
2. Press the reset button
3. Plug the unit back into electrical outlet
4. Check to see if power has returned to the unit

Testing

You should test the Arc Detection Device
equipped power cord monthly, after every major
electrical storm, or if power to your Room Air
Conditioner has been interrupted.

Follow these steps to test the Arc Detection
Device:

1. Unplug unit from electrical outlet
2. Press the reset button
3. Plug the unit back into electrical outlet
4. Press test button. Unit should trip and reset
button will pop up.
5. Press reset button again for use
If above test fails, stop using the air
conditioner and contact customer service by
calling the following toll-free number:
1-800-332-6658 or email:
customerservice@fedders.com

I hope this helps & good luck!
