You only have to format the card if it needs it if you do hit the menu button the find the setup tab scroll down to format it might ask you internal or card select card it will tell you that formatting the card will erase all photos on it if none are on there that you care about than proceed with the format.hope this helps

4GB "SD" cards are almost always actually SDHC (high capacity) cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

So your camera is not able to use the 4GB card, and is ignoring it and using internal memory only. That memory is tiny and won't hold many pictures, and when it is full, the camera cannot work at all. You need to delete the pics in the internal memory and get a memory card your camera can understand (2GB or less).

A 4GB memory card will be an SDHC type. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

Is it an SDHC card of 4gb or more? If so, check to see if your camera can handle cards that large.

How can you format a SD 4gb card for the Kodak EasyShare Z612 Digi Camera

You can't. The Z612 uses SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) card and is incompatible with SD devices.

For SD cards (2GB and smaller), you'll find the Format operation in the Setup menu. Press the Menu button, then use up/down to select the wrench, then press OK.

SD card will not Format

Hello :

Look for a tiny switch on the side of the SD card . This switch indicates[ Lock or Unlock ] . You need to unlock it and try again with formatting .

If that didn't help , then I would think that the problem is with the device you are trying to format the card in .

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO RATE .

good luck .

Problems with formatting memory card

I'm guessing you're trying to format a new 4GB SDHC card? If so, am sorry to say that your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different.

You'll need to instead purchase a standard SD card (those that are 2GB or less). Forunately these are very inexpensive these days, with 2GB cards going for around $6 with shipping.

But if you must use 4GB, Transcend makes a 4GB standard SD card, but I can't guarantee that it will work with your camera as anything above 2GB for standard SD may have compliance issues.

Same as yours

The Z740 supports only MultiMediaCards & SD Memory Cards. 4GB and larger SD cards are usually SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) types - and bear the SDHC mark on the label. These cards are not compatible with this camera. Use only MMC and SD cards. SD cards are 2 GB and under - although *some* 4 GB cards are marked as SD too; these cards may or may not work. If you purchase a 4 GB SD (not SDHC) card, make sure that it can be returned if it doesn't work reliably in your camera.

What memory card do you use for vivitar vivicam 4100? i tried putting in a 4gb sd card, and then the camera wouldnt load up with it in.

The new 4GB card is likely an SDHC card (see if SDHC is printed on the card). Although it looks the exact same as a standard SD card, its file format is different. Your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Unfortunately your camera is not compatible with this card, and there is no way to make it work. Instead consider the wide availability these days of low-cost 2GB standard SD cards. These will work with your camera, and happily only cost about $7 including shipping: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=sd+card+2GB&x=21&y=22
And hang onto that 4GB SDHC card. It will be compatible with all future cameras that you may purchase.

Your camera is not SDHC compatible. It will only support standard SD cards. Sorry.

Message: Memory Card Error - Memory Card Parameter Error on 4gb SDHC card

I have been rummaging around trying to find two solutions: 1) to get my Toshiba Satellite card reader to read SDHC cards and 2) to get my desktop USB ports to read SDHC cards. While MS offers a hotfix for XP, it does not always work because of the different Chip Sets in computers. I have also read where posters say that the SDHC card works in the compter NOW, but NOW will not work in the camera... and the SDHC card NOW works in the camera but will NOT work in the computer.... I found a tekkie article that may help clear the air... SDHC cards are formatted in Fat32x (NOTICE the "x") and SD cards are formatted in Fat32 (no 'x') and these compatibility problems arise when the user unwittingly or unknowingly RE-formats the SDHC card, either when it is put in the computer and won't read or when it is put in the camera and won't read... but just don't bother to mention that THAT is what they did upon inserting the card and only proceeded to complain about an apparent incompatibility. The camera or computer might even mislead you asking if you want to format the card..... but all is not lost. The Panasonic site gives a program AND a pdf instruction book on How To ReFormat an SD or SDHC card specifying the proper Fat32x or Fat32 format. Hope this helps.
