Router is losing connectivity

Anytime my wife and I attempt to watch a movie or show on Hulu or Netflix, after about 5 minutes our router loses connectivity. We have to reboot the modem and the router, then repair our internet connection in order to use the internet again. The strange thing is that we can leave the internet on all night long with no issues, is just seems like whenever we are trying to watch streaming video, the router loses connectivity. Any suggestions?

Could be your Anti virus software. Try to switch it to gaming mode.

From what I have seen, this may be related to your router. The suggestion is to power cycle the router. If your router does not have a power switch just unplug it for a minute then plug it back in. This is not unusual, particularly if your media streamer (Roku, Playstation, etc.) gets a software update.

Are you sure the problem is Netflix or your Wi-Fi router are the problem? Verizon and Comcast have been slowing down Netflix on purpose, so maybe they're the cause of your problem.

I have Netflix on my iPad and have been watching movies by streaming, but lately they have been stopping every 5 to 10 minutes with a message that I need to check Netflix website and the number 1016. Help?

Straight from Netflix:

The Netflix App error 1016 while attempting to stream usually indicates an Internet connectivity issue. To resolve this issue, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Powercycle your home network
  1. Turn off your device and unplug both your router and modem for 20-30 seconds.
  2. Plug in your modem and wait until no new indicator lights are blinking on.
  3. Plug in your router and wait until no new indicator lights are blinking on.
  4. Turn on your device and attempt to stream again.

My roku will drop the program while watching a movie

Sounds to me that your Roku is losing signal to the Router or hotspot. Try setting the router at least 5 feet away from the Roku Box and the higher the router is in the house, the better signal for all devices. Wi-fi broadcast down easier than up!

I can connect to the internet with my router, however periodically it will lose conection. This happens over and over again. Usually around 5-6 times during the lenghth of an average movie. I have tried...

While it's true interference could be causing the issue, there are several other possibilities.

More than likely it's not your router that's losing connection, but your actual internet connection itself. If you're using a cable or DSL service for you internet connection they may be temporarily dropping the connection. It's common in large communities, apartment complexes, etc for connections to "blink" in response to increased bandwidth loads. It's also possible that if your connection is DSL based that your telephone line is connected to a bad circuit.

I would start by watching your Cable or DSL modem and see if you notice the Internet light change status while your watching a movie (when it drops connection). If you do you, should be able to call your provider to come out for a service call.

Try port forwarding. In your router open the port pokerstars runs on, then go back in the router and close it when done if you dont want to have a constantly open port on your PC. The buffering problem can be solved in your player. Go to setting or options (depending on which player you use) and increase the buffer size. If viewing media in a web browser, IE or Firefox, right click on the movie and a setting window should come up. Might be able to increase buffer size there. Also try putting the PC in "standby" mode instead of turning if off completely. This may retain your connection settings for the next time you get on hulu or poker stars.Make sure your firewall (in the router and on the PC) isn't kicking you offline too.
