My PS2 will not play Compact Discs (blue read side

cd fails but AM/FM works?
no year car told.2007 TO 2018 MADE ,CALLED 'JK' SERIES.
just buy the car with dead CD?
just have only one CD? disc?
I have 2008 wangler here, near mint.

first off try read music CD , (called CD_DA) sold in brick stores
not MP3, not CD-R disks recorded try a REAL MUSIC DISK
OR BLOWN OUT THE CD HEAD INSIDE. OPTICS, CARS TEND TO GET DIRTY,.
MY JEEP HAS THE "RES" RADIO HEAD,+ cD

If you are trying to read a burnt game, you need it chipped first. If not, maybe your game is burnt or scratched. Some video stores will fix them for free. (Movie Gallery is where I go)

Is tiger woods a blue disc or silver?

The silver discs are DVD and the Blue ones are CD (same with the black PSOne discs). If Tiger woods is a CD then your DVD laser could be out.

You can try to clean the lasers lens and see if that helps, but if you have jsut got that machine you should take that back.

1. Apparently, blue PS2 discs are lighter than silver ones, so they tend to move around more when the PS2 is reading them. To fix this, you can put duct tape on the top of the disc. This will make it heavier, so it won't move around too much and it should make reading the disc easier for your poor PS2. People have told me that this indeed works (but not always). Don't go overboard with the tape though. Attempt at your own risk. 2. If the problems occurs when the PS2 is horizontal, try putting it into its vertical position. Or try putting it horizontal if it is vertical. 3. Use a can of compressed air to clean dust out of the system. 4. Make sure your game discs are not the problem. Keep them as clean as possible. Even small scratches can cause problems. 5. Open up your PS2 and clean it out or try adjusting the lens. Very risky and voids your warranty. 6. Try using a DVD lens cleaner (for problems reading silver discs) or a CD lens cleaner (for blue disc problems). 7. Send your system to Sony for repairs. Due to a lawsuit, Sony may have to repair your PS2 for free even if there is no warranty. Contact Sony for details. That is all the advice I can give. If the len(s) cleaners or compressed air don't work, then you are probably just out of luck. There is no magic way to suddenly get your PS2 working again without professional repair.

The trick to getting the discs to play on any PS@ (old or new) when they are black or blue is to put a piece of tape lengthwise and width wise around the hole in the disc on the topside (picture-side) of the disc. What this does is add weight to the disc and thus allows the PS2 to read it more accurately. I had bought many older titles not too long ago and was disappointed when they didn't work. Then I spoke with a Japanese expert online and he suggested using scotch tape around the hole in the disc and it worked instantly. Don't be fooled into buying a new PS2, just a roll of scotch tape. You'll only need four one inch strips.

Take a lens cleaner disk, and then run it three times. The ps2 will work or if it doesn't. Its time to upgrade to slimline.

This unit has a problem when playing dual-layer discs of some kinds - read the warnings on the Magnavox website - playing the wrong kind of disc will cause an error that will require svc/repalcement to fix

It should play Cd, Cdr, and DVD as well.  If it will play PS2 and ps1, it should have not problem playing the other three.  If your discs are dirty that was cause it not to read.  If its more can you please expand on what is happening.

Hi Willhayes79, Test to see if the PS2 will read any Discs it is supposed to read. Try CD, CDR, PS1, PS2 Blue, PS2 silver, DVD. It might read something. To repair open the case, and clean everything in sight. Dust is your enemy. ?When you get to the lens, Use a Q-tip lightly damped with Rubbing Alcohol to swab the lens clean. Then dry it. You may have to completely disassemble the PS2 all the way to get all the dust. I believe Dust is shorting out your disc drive spindle. If your not comfortable with fully disassembling you playstation, Then go to WWW.playstationclinic.com and they may do a Cleaning and Tuning for $20 plus shipping.

Is this a new problem or has your PS2 always had this issue? You cannot adjust the laser at all and are likely to damage it if you try, you can however clean the laser lens with a CD/DVD cleaning disk and you'd be surprised how often this resolves disk read issues. Some of these units did have a production fault that prevented them from reading DVD's, if your PS2 has had this fault since new and/or is under 12 months old you could probably have had it repaired/replaced by Sony but by opening it you will have invalidated you're warranty.
