Whi im the guy installing the brand new ac system i have the gauges and vacuum pump on now and gauges arent moving

Sounds like it could be a leak in the system, or a bad vacuum pump, or bad guage connections? Is the vacuum pump new? Are the guages the LCD type that won't come on until they reach a certain level? Just trying to brainstorm this question, but need more information to move forward. You might check out this blog about vacuum systems:

how do you know if it is actually the ac compressor that is at fault ( perfectly good ac compressor from a wreckers /junk yard are available to suit your car at around 70% saving on a new unit )
there are several safety switches in the system that prevent the ac compressor from working
the main reason for ac failure is loss of gas from a leak
next while you can replace the ac compressor yourself , if you have the tools and the know how you will still need a vacuum pump to vacuum the system down to remove the air and a set of gauges to get the right pressure when regassing

Do you have the vacuum gauges and vacuum pump to pull the air out of the system.. Make sure you put the correct amount of the correct number oil in the compressor before installing...
If you do not,, please get help from a qualified professional...

was system evacuate by pumping it down using vacuum pump to remove all moisture out of the system.most time of the time when i work on AC system you have pump it down from 30 minutes to a hour.pump it until low pressure gauge read 30 hgs in the green area.i shut down vacuum pump close off manifold gauge valves see if low pressure side reading stay at 30 hgs or drop if gauge needle stop dropping have leak in the AC system.if all is good you have temperature air door problems.air door not opening all cool air to circulate through AC vents.

Why is the ac dont kik in wen you put the air on


Oh I didn't see the rest of your post. You have to vacuum the system out once repairs have been made. Anytime the system is opened up, you have to use a vacuum pump and gauges to check for leaks. THEN you recharge the system with the proper amount of r134a refrigerant. I suggest you take it to a shop that does AC work to have them charge it. If they find a leak they will tell you it cant be charged.

There are 2 safety switches in most A/C systems. A high and low pressure sensor will cut off the Compressor clutch. You can borrow a gauge set, called Manifold gauges, from tool loaner programs at Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys autoparts.

There are several ways to try to fix this. It depends on what the pressure gauges show.

If the pressure is low, but not empty, there is hope. The old Freon leaked out. It will happen again. But there are products which can plug some leaks. Then add Freon using the gauges. The ideal amount is an amount that makes the compressor stay on the longest. There are gauges that can tell you, color coded, and reasonable priced.

If the system is completely empty, it is contaminated with outside air. The Freon will not function correctly if added and a new Dryer(A/C part) should be installed. There is a Vacuum pump which must be attached to draw down the system to a negative vacuum. So even changing a part will not decontaminate the system without the pump. Pump can be loaned from Autozone with big deposit which is returned, no hassle. Some parts require special pliers and "O" rings to reinstall.

The price of Freon has skyrocketed. What once costed $12 to refill a car now costs $50. So going to a repair shop can be a better idea if you waste Freon doing it yourself. If you don't repair the leak, imagine $50 evaporating into the wind with the Freon.

If you are not a service technician you probably won't have the tools you will need to accomplish the move. Here is what it takes, step bye step. 1. Pull the fuses or turn off the electrical breaker in the house. 2. Hook up a gauge manifold to the Condensing unit ports for the liquid and suction lines. 3. Hook up a Refrigerant recovery machine to the manifold. 4. Recover the refrigerant into recovery tanks down to a trace, no vacuum. 5. Disconnect the electrical whip and control wiring from the condenser. 6. Close off the service valves on the liquid and suction lines at the condenser. 7. Slowly unscrew the copper line connections to the condensing unit to relieve any pressure that may exist from Refrigerant boiling out of the oil in the compressor and quickly cap them. 8. Move the unit to your new, firm and level location. 9. Remove the old electrical disconnect and whip and move it to the condenser. 10. Buy a new line set of the proper length or extend the old one with Refrigeration copper and couplings preserving the condenser couplings. 11. Replace the liquid line drier and reconnect the copper lines to the condensing unit. Replace the "O" Rings if needed to insure a good seal. 12. Hook up a vacuum pump to your gauge manifold. 13. Open the isolation valves on the condenser. Depending on the oil type in the system, evacuate to 250 Microns. 13. Charge system with 50 pounds of Nitrogen and a little Refrigerant for a trace test. 14. Watch your gauges for a drop in pressure indicating a leak. 15. Check all fittings and any splices with a good Halogen gas detector. 16. Evacuate the system again to the point of vaporization of the oil in the compressor being careful not to boil it off. 17. Close off all ports on your manifold and install a small drier to your Refrigerant line. 18. Re-install the recovered Refrigerant, running it through the small drier on your manifold. 19. Re-check for leaks. 20. Install the electrical whip on the contacter and the control wires on the contacter coil. 21.Start the AC and check the running amps against the name plate Full Load Amps (FLA) or Regular Load Amps (RLA) and check the Refrigerant charge against the units chart. Either in your owners manual or glued to the electrical access cover.
Method 2 = Instead of recovering the refrigerant, you can pump it into the condensing unit. With your gauge manifold tied in, close the liquid line isolation valve. Run the compressor till the compound gauge reads 1 pound and close the suction line isolation valve. Doing it this way will eliminate the need for the recovery machine and heavy tanks. All else remains the same.
Special tools needed = Compound gauge (meaning it reads both pressure and vacuum). High pressure gauge, gauge manifold and at least 3 hoses, a vacuum pump, leak detector (or soap bubbles) and an amp probe. Please rate this response. Thanks for asking!

Hi..i had to change a/c condencer, and the a/c compresser, both at the same time.how will i go about charging the system? do i need to add coolent too both ports? or just the low side.?


YOU TAKE TO A GARAGE LET THEM PUMP IT DOWN FIRST MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE RIGHT AMOUNT REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR.IT COME WITH SHIPPING OIL IN IT BUT YOU HAVE TO POUR IT OUT.PUT IN THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR LOOK IN OWNERS MANUAL TO PUT IN THE RIGHT AMOUNT.NOW IF YOUR OLD COMPRESSOR SEIZED OR LOCKED UP THEN LET GARAGE FLUSH OUT METAL SHAVINGS OUT .IF YOU DONT FLUSH OUT SHAVINGS THE NEW COMPRESSOR WILL BE DESTROYED.ALSO YOU HAVE TO REPLACED THE ACCUMULATOR OR ORIFICE TUBE IF EQUIPPED.IF OLD COMPRESSOR DIDNT LOCK UP.PUT NEW REFRIGERANT OIL IN COMPRESSOR IT TAKE AT LEAST 1 OUNCE OF OIL BUT CHECK OWNERS MANUAL ALL VECHICLE HAS DIFFERENT SPECS.AFTER COMPRESSOR OIL BEEN PUT IN EVERYTHING ALL REFRIGERANT LINES TIGHT.TAKE VECHICLE TO A GARAGE THAT DO AIR CONDITIONER WORK.THEY HAVE TO USE A VACUUM PUMP TO PUMP DOWN THE AC SYSTEM TO REMOVE MOISTURE AND LEAK TEST THE SYSTEM WHILE IT PUMP DOWN.IF YOU DONT LET THE GARAGE PUMP DOWN SYSTEM. THE MOISTURE WILL FREEZE UP IN AC SYSTEM CAUSING POOR OR NO COOLING.THE GARAGE GOING TO CHARGE YOU TO PUMP DOWN AND CHARGE UP SYSTEM.IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO DO THIS THAN TO BUY A VACUUM PUMP AND MANIFOLD GAUGE SET.WHEN DOING AC WORK YOU NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS TO DO THE JOB OR THE AC SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK RIGHT.

What do I have to do to change the a/c compressor are there any special procedures or can I take the old one off put the new one on and then charge the system with coolant I have a 1996 oldsmobile delta...


if old compressor fail your air condition has to be discharge at dealership or a garage that does ac repair.then the ac lines has to be flushed out before putting on new one. because old one when it fails clutch lock up or compressor fail.small metal particles get in line.stop up orifice tube.you will have to replace orifice tube the accumalator .you will need vacuum pump to pump down air conditioner .to get moisture out of system.you will need a manifold gauge set for air conditioner.ac tools are expensive.it would be cheaper to buy compressor - accumulator - orifice tube. take it to a good air conditioner mechanics.let him put parts on and pump down system.then charge it up.because buying tools to get ac going .is going to cost $475.00 thats the vacuum pump price.you can buy a cheaper vacuum pump that works from air from a regular air compressor you pump tires up with.manifold gauge set causes from $100.00 up to $300.00 for a good set.another thing you have to be familiar with working on air conditioners you put too much R-134 in system you will damage compressor or get seriously hurt.
