SOURCE: Replaced thermostat on FA4ANF030 with Honeywell model rth3100c does not work

4-wire typical wiring of a thermostat is: Y (Yellow) G (Green) W (white) and R (red). Inspect the thermostat to see if it has a jumper from R1 to R2. If not, put your red wire on R2. On a 5-wire thermostat you may have a blue wire. This will go to the common terminal (usually C but sometimes B) check the inline fuse in the air handler to see if it has blown. Replace it only after wiring the thermostat correctly.

SOURCE: Wiring Trane/Honeywell TH8320U

use the outside designations for heat pump, and inside for standard, I would assume a heat pump since you have more than five wires attached to it now. Use the colors of the wire to match to the designations, use tan for y2, black for w2 rc and rh should already have a factory jumper. I would have to trace out the "U" and see where it terminates, I have not seen a bare wire on a stat in 27 years of doing this. before powering, verify the tan and black at the indoor unit circuit board and see if they are landed on the terminals designated at the stat. hope this helps

Sounds like you didn't turn the power off and blew the low voltage fuse. Typically a 5 amp blade style (like a car) inside furnace. TURN THE POWER OFF!!

I have a Trane 3AAT80B1A1 thermostat that I'm replacing with a Honeywell RTHL 3550D. Is it possible to do this myself or will I need to have an electrician come out?

The easiest way to be certain the wires get connected is to cut the wires close to the screw without loosening the screw. That way the color of the wire can be seen on the correct terminal without mixing them up.

The following are the two manuals for ths product, I looked briefly and didn't see an answer to your wuestion. If you want to change the number of degrees between heating and cooling operation from 1 to 3 degress that can be found in the operating manual, under programming. 69-1723 - RTH6300B - Programmable Thermostat Operating Manual

Honeywell RTH6300B to replace Trane Baystat 239

Sad to say but you have bought an non compatible thermostat, what you need is a thermostat that has "Heat Pump" somewhere on the package, Honeywell makes those also in the same models, sometimes they can be tricky if your not looking. It should also say 2heat, 1cool too. Hope this helps and good luck!

I'm replacing an old thermostat with a new Honeywell RTH6300B programmable. I have propane heat and central AC. My old thermostat has a black, a red and a yellow leads with no ID on the old thermostat wall...

Open up the propane furnace and see what color wires are hooked to the gas valve or circuit board. If it has a circuit board, note which color is on the R terminal and W terminal, Connect the the thermostat the same way. Most likely the yellow wire powers your A/C so you can hook that one to the Y terminal.
