Hi, when a psp player has no sound, It might be from the speaker inside the psp or the sound IC that is damaged.

You open the psp and useameter or a battery to read if the speakers inside are working.

If the speaker are working, that means the sound IC has to be replaced.

Take care,

If you are experiencing a problem with the volume on your Sony PSP
device, there are a number of factors that may be contributing to the
issue. It could be a problem with the hardware, or something as simple
as a button accidentally left on while playing. Fixing the problem with
your PSP volume is relatively easy in most cases, and after a few minor
tweaks, you'll be back to playing your PSP at full volume in no time.

Check the mute settings. Clear any current sound settings by pressing
the audio button on the face of your PSP. Test to see if this solved
    your problem.

Test to see if you accidentally turned the volume all the way down by
raising the volume level and checking the sound quality.

Remove headphones from the headphone jack. Having your headphones
plugged into the device will prohibit sound from coming out of the
    actual speakers.

Make sure the AVLS (automatic volume limiter system) is turned off. The
AVLS is a safety precaution that limits the amount of sound that can
come through headphones and speakers and may severely cut back on the
    sound quality when turned on.

Disconnect and reconnect your memory stick. Sometimes when the memory
stick is not fully connected, it can interfere with volume and game

Check whether or not your device is connected to a video output cable.
In the event that you are connected to video output, you need to control
the volume from the video device you are playing through.

ry resetting your game system. Make sure you remove games and save
devices before doing this to avoid erasing your saved settings. Remove
the battery pack from the back of the PSP device. Hold in the start
button for five seconds while the battery is out then replace the batter
and restart your PSP. Test your volume to see if it's been restored.

    Tips & Warnings

    • In
the event that none of the above methods fixes your problem, you may
have a hardware issue. Some hardware issues can be corrected by a
professional repairman, while others cannot be fixed at all. If your
system is still under warranty, consider exchanging it for a new one.

When a psp turns on but there is no sound and picture, there are few things to check open the screw and check are all OK and there is non that is cut or unfitted... If all this is done and there is no improvement then one is bad which is the sound/picture board and the solution is to replace the board. I will advise that you give it to a certified technician for repairs. Check

Psp1004 start up and click sounds hears but no backup

clicking sound is coming from the umd drive. no picture would be either the light or the main board is bad in the PSP.

To fix both issues would cost more then just getting a new psp. Get a new psp.

Sounds like the screen is bad and if you charged up your battery and the PSP won't turn on then your battery needs to be replaced as well.

PSP Slim, picture problems

If he bought it from best buy, ask for a two year reeplacment plan. after that, you tell them what happend to your psp. by the way, the replacment plan is only $29.99. They will either try to fix it, or they will give you a new psp, the same exact type as you said psp slim, for free. But heres a catch. after you use the replacment plan once, you may not be able to use it again. good luck. P.S. what happend to your nephew, is what happend to me.

Psp support

Sounds like the Backlight is out. There is a fuse on the motherboard that can blow and cause this to happen.

You can fix it bu applying a drop of solder and bridge this fuse.

You can find tutorials and walkthoughs on youtube.
