Sony CyberShot W290. When I turn the Camera on, "USB Mode Connecting..." displays. How can I get out of this and get back to taking normal pictures? All I can do now is get to the Menu and scroll through Auto/PictureBridge/Mass Storage, etc.

Sony Cybershot W290. I just changed the battery. Now when I turn on the camera I get "USB Mode Connecting..." but I'm not trying to save anything. I can only get to the Menu that lets me scroll through Auto/PictureBridge/MassStorage. We've tried them all and even trash. Any ideas how to get back to just taking pictures?

Is your camera connected to the computer or any device through the USB port while you're trying to turn it on?? When it's connected through a USB connection, no pictures or modifications can be made!

If it's not connected to any device, take out the batteries, and the memory card. If it has a lithium battery (to store settings/time and date/etc.) take it out as well (refer to the user's guide for more info)... Wait 10 minutes, then put everything back and try again.

Also, try upgrading (or re-applying) the camera's firmware, while connected to a computer. This would most definitely work, but I couldn't find it myself over the internet.

Good luck,
Pelu.

Go into your setup menu. Go to where you pick where to save your pictures to and select "Internal" or "Memory Card". This will put your pictures where you want them, either in the camera or on removable media.

    Thanks Fixer1950 guy,

We can't get to the Setup menu. We can only get to the Menu that has:

    Auto

    PictureBridge

    Mass Storage.

We've tried pressing all of them and also trash and can't get out of the USB Mode Connecting.....

We aren't trying to save pictures; just need to get back to taking pictures.

    Any other ideas??

    Hi Fixer1950,

Forgot to tell you this happened right after we changed the battery. Does that help?

Cannot upload pictures anymore from sony DSC-W230 camera

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

I have sony DSC-W290 Cybershot Digital camera. it has zoom of 5x. currently, zoom is working up to 1.4x.After 1.4x the more zoom i did the photo is showing blur(Not clear).

I would check and confirm that you are zooming using the optical zoom. It sounds like you may be zooming using the digital zoom, which would have this effect.

I have a sony cybershot w-290. I downloaded pictures to my laptop from the memory stick. When I turn it on I get a message to turn it off and back on again. My lens keeps going in and out. I show full...

Sounds like your lens has issues. Probably some debris/sand got into it or maybe it suffered a
Jolt of some sort. Whatever the case maybe you will need to get your Lens serviced.
Sometimes if you use a case the camera may have turned on inside the case and caused
lens damage.

The lens of my sony camera will NOT retracked. What can I do, I love this camera.

There is a capacitor dump that you can try.

Remove the batteries, wait 5-10 minutes.
With the batteries out, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds or so.
Put the batteries back in and your camera will start over (re-boot). You will know if it worked if you have to reset the date. But if that lens is really stuck you may be out of luck. The cost to repair it will exceed the cost of a new camera.

Cybershot dsc-w50 records movies instead of pictures

I had the same problem with my camera.  I found that changing the mode from Multi Burst to Normal allows the camera to take normal pictures.  Go to Menu and scroll over to Mode, then select Normal.
