Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Our Netgear Ready Nas 1100 was connected to the server as a back-up and second copy solution to our server that is now down (Dell Poweredge 1800). Since it was linked to the server we have not been able to get onto the NAS independently and it is not recognizing the admin password. I clearly see the NAS on our network but cannot log into it. Is there another approach to get onto it - ie -change the password or settings? thanks Pat

Hi,
You can reset your ReadyNAS Admin password by accessing http://ip_address_of_readynas/password_recovery . If you have forgotten the password recovery answer, you will need to perform a firmware re-installation to reset the admin password.
How to re-install the firmware? You can force a re-installation of the firmware from flash to the disk. This is helpful if you have lost your admin password and want to set it back to default, if errors in your network settings has made it impossible to connect to the ReadyNAS, or if you suspect that the operating system on your disk may somehow be corrupt. The firmware re-installation process will not touch your data volume.
[Note : If nothing works than try reseting ReadyNAS to factory defaults]
How to reset the ReadyNAS to factory default?
Resetting the ReadyNAS back to factory default will wipe out all configuration and data. Please understand this before continuing. If you choose to continue, here are the steps:Power down the ReadyNAS.Locate the reset pinhole.
ReadyNAS 1000S/1100: the pinhole is in the front.
Get a straightened paper clip and depress the hidden switch in the pinhole while the power is off, and then power on the ReadyNAS, keeping the switch depressed for about 30 secs. You will see the drive LEDs in the front blink once at about 5 secs and again at about 30 secs. Release the switch at the 2nd blink.
There will be a 10-minute window where you can use RAIDar to change the RAID mode and/or select the snapshot reserved space. RAIDar will prompt with "Click Setup". If you do not click Setup, the installation will begin with the default settings. Otherwise, it will begin when you've confirmed your option selection in RAIDar. You can monitor the installation progress with RAIDar.
Good Luck!

I want to install windos 2003 server on dell poweredge 2600 but the server is very slow i want help

Hello,

I am not sure what you mean by "slow" so I will anwer in general terms. I would recommend 1st that you make sure the PowerEdge meets the recommended hardware specs for Windows Swerver 2003. (Memory, CPU speed, Hard drive capacity, etc.) 2nd- I would run two Xeon processors instead of one and add as much memory as you can put in your system.

I run MS Server 2003 on one of my servers and here is the configuration that I am using:
2 Xeon 2.8GHz processors
6GB ECC Memory
120GB hard drive for the server operating system (Nothing else is on this drive)
750GB hard drive for all other applications
External NAS storage for files, data, etc. (connected to my netword via Ethernet 5e)

With this setup, my server has been running very well for 6 years now. I do maintanance every week on it to keep it up to par. (Simple dusting, checking cables, etc.)

Good Luck.

Hi, few days ago I bought a Netgear NAS 2110 and connected it to my Netgear WNDR3700 router. I installed RAIDar utility and followed the instructions. Everything seemed to work alright. From my laptop I...

If it's new it's probably doing some housekeeping. The drives need to be formatted and then the RAID arrays need to be sorted.

On installing my server, it took days to complete, however, that was with existing data on the drive.

It might not be letting you switch off because it's busy and doing so would mess up what it's trying to perform.

If you don't want to wait to find out if all is OK, go into the configuratio utility and set just one drive up. This will show if it's working as a unit. If all is fine, install the remaining drives, maybe one at a time.

No power to dell poweredge 1600sc. Redundant power supplies have no lights.

Either the power supplies have both failed, which is unlikely, or they are not connected to a hot outlet. Frequently servers are connected to uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) instead of being connected directly to a wall outlet. Make sure the UPS is on and functioning.

Dell provides lifetime phone support for their servers so you should give them a call if you need more help tracking down the problem. (800) 945-3355

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Dell PowerEdege 1600SC not recognizing IO devices

Just go into the bios and insert the correct parameters. you shut it off before it could save the settings. Or hit fi on boot and it should take you into the bios and you cand sort it out in there. If you want an easy way, just do a system restore. Start,Programs, accesorys, system tools, system restore, just go back a day or two before you had that issue, and you should be good to go, good luck
