Question about Weber 2780001 Summit S-470 Gas Grill

1 Answer

The grill will not light

My summit grill will not light because the gas is not getting to the burners. I am told that spider webs can often block the burners. How do I clear out the burners.I tried to pull them out but they appear to be fastened in. The grill is only 2 years old and the holes on the burner are not rusted or obstructed.

Before buying anything, look into the burners for spider webs. The webs block gas from getting to the burner and will fire back. This is dangerous. Look carefully where the gas nozzle enters the burner tube.

Summit 670S Natural Gas - Takes several attempts to ignite each burner. Even after holding each knob in the on gas flow position for several seconds to allow for the proper gas air mixture to take place.

Pipe Guy, You need to remove the burners and clean them throughly and the venturi valve on each burner. Spiders love to build nest in them. That should correct the gas to air ratio.

Our grill won't heat above 200 degrees F. I can smell gas, but have done the soapy water test and no sign of a leak. Anything else Ishould check?

You might have the spider syndrome. A strange but common problem is that small spiders build a tiny web that blocks the gas from flowing . They find the small hole "called the orifice" that allows that gas to flow from the end of the gas hose/tube and then enter the burner. Remove the burner and look into the orifce hole; you may see a white cotten-like blockage of the orifice hole, or sometimes the web will be buily in the end of the burner tube. Either way, this is the most likely problem.. I am assuming that the burner is not old and rusting away so that the gas is not being controlled throught the burner because the burner has rust holes in it.

Spring startup

You'll need to remove the burners and make certain there's no debis blocking the holes. Dirt, rust and spider webs are common obstruction and need to be cleared away. Also make sure gas feed tube is firmly seated to burner.

Look for spider webs in the venturi tubes, check the orfices or it could be faulty controls. Verify the tank working properly by trying on another grill.

Cant get the burners to stay lite.

Spiders like to create little hidey webs in the tubes of propane grills and stoves.

Take it apart as much as you can and blow compressed air through all of the holes and apertures. You can either take it to the gas station and us the $.25 air machine or buy a can of compressed air at your computer store.

Gas leaking behind the handles along perforated pipe

Spiders get into the gas line and spin their webs causing the gas flow to be interrupted. Take the burner off and carefully remove the web. Replace the burner and it will work just fine.
