Question about Sony SLV-D380P DVD Player/VCR

Open Question

I can't get my Sony SLV D380P to work. When I turn on Power there's no indication that it's on. When I press the Select DVD or VCR button, nothing happens. Neither the DVD tray opens nor anything else does anything. It's connected to a tv with yellow and white connectors (monaural) from the Sony DVD/VCR to the tv. The Sony is connected to the cable box with yellow, white and red wires. I've pressed every button on the thing and nothing happens. I plugged and unplugged it 3 times just to make sure it was fully plugged in. It sat around unused for about 6 months. I can watch tv with it the way it is but there is no sign of life in the Sony.

SOURCE: Suddenly, "No Signal" display when cable box/VCR Connected to UHF/VHF Jack

How long have you owned the tv? You have two options though your best bet is to locate your nearest authorized service center to have the tv repaired.
Thanks,

SOURCE: vcr does not run

Try changing the channels on the VCR itself. If you can do that, then it would indicate a problem with the VCR's remote. If you are still unable to change channels on the VCR manually, it could indicate a circuitry problem, for which you will have to get the VCR serviced.

SOURCE: connecting and recording sony hdtv, rdr-hx780 recorder, sony dream system

I have the same system, except for the TV, I have a project (that part doesn't matter).

From your Sat. go straight to your AV receiver
Again from you Sat. (all of the AV outputs are all live), go out from either 1 or 2 and go to your recorder Line 1 in.
From you AV receiver go to your TV.

All you have to do is hit record and you will record whichever channel you are on. I am having difficulty getting it set up as a PVR, but will figure it out sooner or later.

Hope this helped.

SOURCE: which components is responsible for

Auto tracking, or 'digital tracking' as it is sometimes known, is generally governed by the CTL (the linear control track head), located toward the right-hand side of the main head cylinder drum, along with a combination of the guide posts/rollers, the capstan speed as the tape travels in the deck, and of course the drum balance since this rotates the fastest. Usually this is pre-aligned to factory standard, but as parts wear down, the alignment changes - hence your 'tracking query'.

Presuming you have a video picture from your tapes on the TV screen, you can bet the tracking is controlled electro-mechanically (as above). One of the first parts on the mech to wear out is the rubber pinch roller - when it becomes glazed or shiny, tapes can be chewed and/or the 'control track' drifts during playback - more so than when recording.

Nevertheless, it is usually a simple workshop repair involving inexpensive part replacement/alignment on the mechanism including a new pinch roller and cleaning of the entire tape path. The only 'cost' would be labour on top of the parts. The option here is that you can submit your unit to a workshop/service centre for a quote on repair/parts costs first, then decide if you want the tracking fixed - up to you. I hope you have no other really serious issue with this combo unit - SONY is a premium brand - trusted and reliable. I assume the DVD section works fine.

Remember; bad tracking is not always a mechnical mis-alignment - it can also be the quality/age/condition of the tapes a person uses as well, even if that person doesn't 'thrash' tapes on a daily basis. From memory, the SLV-D380P is one of SONY's better DVD/VCR combos.

The Sony SLV-D300P is a DVD PLAYER and VCR. It does not record DVDs. You would have to buy a combo unit with a DVD recorder, not just a DVD player.

My sony SLV-D300P suddenly would not turn on. The blue ps button/light just flashes, but no attempt to turn the unit on works. It was working fine, without any problems, until this one occurred.

I have the same problem -- tried power reset, tried holding stop button for 5 second reset, nothing works. If I push the power button or the eject button, the blue light flashes momentarily then goes out.

You have the Chanel Finder activated, usually a small switch on back, or somewhere it is used to give a "Pilot Signal" so the TV set can be tuned.to that signal, after you find it, you turn it OFF on the VCR. Or maybe the remote, check in your manual.
