Question about Fedders Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Fedders Model No. A7U12W2A-A, 12000btu airconditioner. The unit has been cooling satisfactorily for two to three years. Today the unit was cooling and suddenly there were a couple of reasonably loud knocks and the compressor stopped cooling. The fan continues to run. In about five minutes the cooling comes back on. The compressor runs for abut four minutes and shuts down. Earlier today we had a power dip without losing all power.

Hi, the power dip when translated means low current actually affected the relay starter which is situated beside the compressor. Now the relay starter works and stop intermittently which is why the Compressor cools whenever it works and does not cool whenever it does not work.
You need to change the relay starter immediately.

Take care

Ice forms around the coils of the air condition

Check to make sure that the filter is clean and make sure that the coil is clean and free of debris. A low refrigerant charge can also cause this problem.

Can't find where to recharge a Fedders wall heating/airconditioner model cme015d3b

Hello, in order to rechrage the unit you must add a piercing valve to the low side of the system, most window units do not come with acess fittings. You can also add one to the high side while you are at it. Here is a link

I have a dehumidifier that runs but does not pull moisture from the air in the basement. the application is about 3-5 years old. It is a Maytag and I purchased it at Home Depot. The Model is M3DG30B2A A....

There are a couple of things you can check for and they are; First of all, when you say the unit is running you may only be hearing the fan run. The compressor may possibly be not running(if it isn't running you will have no dehumidification as a dehumidifier is really nothing more than a small airconditioner.(cooling a coil for the moisture in the space to condense to). Second, The space may be to cool for the unit to run and dehumidify well, The space should at least be 65 degrees or warmer. Third, the system may have a leak and it is out of or low on refrigerant(freon). Depending on what you paid for the unit and if it has any remaining warranty(parts only-labor not covered) if the system is out of refrigerant or if the compressor is bad it probably isn't worth the cost to repair.

I have an older unit need to know what the top knob does

One of the knobs controls fan speeds, cooling speeds and an off position. Center knob controls temperature and bottom knob more than likely controls air exchange. As for the front cover it would depend on the units age as to if it would be available.
