Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I changed the hard-drive from 10g to 250g and I need to install the programs that came with the system, but I tried to do it and it didn't work. How can install the programs? I already have the Windows XP64. I don't think it works on the system.

You have not mentioned what model of laptop this is.
And keep in mind that there are ways to copy the 10GB drive directly to the 250GB drive, so you dont have to reinstall anything.
Checkout DriveImage XML http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm. or CopyDisk http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/ both free.
Otherwise check for drivers and system utilities from the manufacturers support page, and for things like MS Office you will need the original install disks and product keys.

Hi I got bluescreen when am install window xp

There would usually be information on the blue screen to help us diagnose the problem but there is more comment that needs to be made. If you still have just the 128M of ram and the 10G hard drive then forget installing xp. xp needs a minimum of 1G ram to work in and that is the maximum your machine can hold. Secondly, the 10G hard drive will only just work when you have got SP2 & 3 installed - there will be no room left for anything else.

Additionally, this machine will be quite slow with a P3 processor running at 733M but it's your choice.

If you want to install xp on this machine I would suggest getting the ram to maximum and a larger hard drive installed before continuing. If you have already done this then please get back to us with any error message that may be on the blue screen.

My Dell PC scan says that my Samsung SP2504C hard drive is about to fail and should be replaced. Is this something I can do?

Replacing the hard drive involves the following process:
  1. Turn off and unplug the computer
  2. Remove the two screws from the left panel (facing the front of the tower)
  3. Slide the left panel back and to the left to remove it
  4. Unplug both power and data from the hard drive
  5. Unscrew the hard drive (You may need also remove the right panel to get to additional screws)
  6. Slide hard drive out
  7. Slide in new hard drive.
  8. Screw in new hard drive in approximately the same fashion as previous hard drive was screwed in
  9. Plug in power and data
  10. Re-install panel
  11. Plug computer in and boot

However, if this is your main or only hard drive, you will need to install your Operating system and all of your software and files from scratch. It may be possible to preserve them, but that's often risky and requires a bit more work. If this is your main hard drive, you probably want to consult an expert on having the old drive contents moved to the new drive.
If you like my solution, please vote for me,

My computer cant find my external hard drive

Sounds like the drive isn't working, but the next step is to try it on another computer. If it doesn't show up there either, then the drive is faulty.

Changed HD know laptop wont come on

your hard drive has your operating system on it if you can't boot from your cd you may have to change your settings to do so.you can also back up and change one item at a time for instance put your original hard drive back in long enough to get the new monitor working then after making sure your system is set up to boot from the drive you will be loading your operating system from, change your hard drive again. At least this way you can narrow down what the problem may be.If not fix it.
