SOURCE: Faceplate will not open
Perhaps something is not installed correctly physically. Sometimes if something is a little twisted the way the unit is installed it will keep it from opening properly. Try moving the unit slightly and see if that helps.

Google the name and model of the remote and put instructions behind it....If you don't know the model, it may be under the battery lid (either inside or on the lid itself). If its not there, you can go to google images and type in rca universal remote and find one that looks like yours and it will tell you the model. I have done it before.....

All i did was slip a knife blade between the silver part and where the face plate meets it. It simply pops out after aplying some upward pressure. There are a few places where the face plate has to be popped before the entire thing is free
