How can I fix the error I am receiving at initial start up? See details section for Error and description of what has already been done to try and fix.

It sounds like the hard drive in your machine has failed. It uses a standard 2.5" SATA hard drive (Most likely 9.5mm thickness maximum, most are that.) Hopefully you have made a recovery CD set from the recovery partition on the drive.

I want to add the hp 1270i to my hp computer how do i?

In order to replace the optical drive on your PC, you would need to first remove the side panel (opposite side that the motherboard outputs are on). Next, you disconnect the cables for your existing drive and motherboard (unless the drives are the same type of connection) install the replacement optical drive, connect the cables the the drive and your motherboard. Replace the side panel and you are done.

My xbox wont read xbox games but plays dvd`s,ive replaced disc drive and done the xclamp procedure.any ideas how i can fix this??

Since you've already replaced the drive and done the other procedure, you're best bet is to get in touch with xbox directly as it may be a software issue now. 1-800-4MY-XBOX

Replaced IDE DVD writer with a SATA DVD writer. Powered up XP Pro system, but no drive letter shows up. There is power to the DVD drive, but the OS does not see it. No BIOS updates available from EPoX.

Check your bios settings. If you already have two SATA hard disk drives in your system the bios should also list your SATA DVD writer as third in the list. Make sure the bios list the DVD writer. Remember all SATA drives including SATA DVD drives are all seen as Masters. Check your Boot order settings as well. If windows sill does not list a drive letter for your SATA DVD click, Start/Run and type: diskmgmt.msc in the run window. Assign a drive letter to the drive manually.

Cheers!

DVD Drive Booting

You said you've already done it, but just check your BIOS again to make sure the DVD drive is the first bootable device. You can usually find this by pressing DEL as soon as the computer starts up, then searching for "Boot Order", usually found under an "Advanced Options" menu in the BIOS. Of course, this differs between every manufacturer and model.

If you can't find it, or it's set to the DVD drive, there's something else you could try. Most newer computers will display during post something along the lines of "PRESS F12 TO SELECT BOOT DEVICE" - again the wording will vary between models. Search your screen for anything that looks similar, and press the appropriate key; you should be presented with a list of drives, so choose the one you want to boot from.

If you've done this and it still doesn't boot from the disc, then the disc is very likely not bootable (Or your DVD drive is malfunctioning).

DVD RAM DRIVE does not recognize any contents on recorder DVDs.

First, one correction. Panasonic website for parts asks $437 plus tax and shipping for replacement part for PANSONIC SA-HT1500 dvd recorder.

My solution. I opened the box and unplug and plug back cable with black tape going to HDD, and tighten cable near DVD-RAM drive. I closed the unit, connected as before, and whooala, everything is back in normal. Apparently, so connections loose over time.
So, for now, my SA-HT1500 dvd recorder works OK, and I can see all contents on recorded DVDs and DVD-RAMs, and I am able to record from and to DVDs.

I also find out that in the worst scenario, there is flat fee charge for repair in autorized Panasonic repair center. The phone number is 847-468-5543, and it is in Elgin, Illinois. You have to leave message on their answering machine, and they will call you back. There is $130 flat fee for all parts, labor and shipping. Definitely worthy compare to ridiculous price for replacement part on Panasonic website.

Wont read games

This sounds like a damaged or broken laser. This should be fixable by replacing the DVD drive, but this process WILL void your warrant (unless it has already been voided. If it has already been voided then full steam ahead with drive replacement.)

If you still have your warranty, then the best solution is to send it out to Microsoft for repair.

If your warranty is void, then replacing the drive will probably do the trick. It must be an xbox DVD drive. That is the only one that will work. They're on eBay for about $30, provided you can open an xbox and switch out the drives. If that doesn't work, then I'm stumped.

I have an internal HP DVD Writer 740b that writes on CD but not on DVD. I tried Sony DVD RW and Memorex DVD-RW to copy files on but I failed. I use Nero Essentials to burn. The dialogue box keeps saying no...

DVD-RW drives have 2 different designs, 1 used dual optics, 1 for CD one for DVD, the other uses optics that can refocus between the media types.

If you haven't done so already, flash the firmware of the drive to the latest available from HP.

Assuming that the drive worked with NERO previously, If that doesn't resolve, you will likely need to replace the drive.

If you have not used Nero with that drive for DVD media, you might try a different SW and see if Roxio/Sonic will see DVD media in the drive.

Toughbook CF-51 Laptop DVD Drive Problem

It could be a software or driver issue. First try updating the drivers for the drive, and try either using different burning software or uninstalling & reloading your current software. I had a cf72 with a DVD/CD combo drive that the DVD reader went out. This could also be the issue, if so you'll need to replace it in order to burn CD's.

My cd/dvd opens then closes

> I've already replaced it once

Well, I've seen CD-drives that would re-open, when you try to close them -- it is _falsely_ detecting a "jam" as the tray is closing, and then just re-opens the tray, rather than "forcing" itself to close.

Replacing the CD-drive is the only way to fix that type of "false-positive" jam-detection conditions.

But, since you've done that, either you were unlucky-enough that the replacement drive was also "defective", or, you have a computer-virus on your computer that is maliciously issuing commands to the CD to "open-the-tray".
