Question about Frigidaire FPHC2399KF (226 cu ft) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Frigidaire Professional 22.6 Cu. Ft. Counter-Depth Refrigerator - Model: FPHC2399KF I have ice that is collecting in the bottom of my freezer. My understanding is that this ice is caused by a buildup near my unit's defrost unit. I currently have nothing in the freezer portion and I was hoping there was a way to turn off just the freezer and keep the refrigerator side operational. Any help would be appreciated!

Is it easy to remove the panel?

  • Phil Lavoie Jul 07, 2010

Thanks! I removed the panel poured in hot water into the drain until it flowed nicely. Does this mean that there is a lot of water in my drip pan? Is there anyway to empty this so that the drain doesn't get clogged again?

There is a chance that the drain hole is pluged or clogged with frozen ice. This can usually be cleared with hot water to melt the ice then dry off any remaining water with a towel.
the drain is located in the bottom rear of the freezer cabinet just behind the panel with the vent holes

there is no way of turning off the freezer because all the cold air for the fridge comes from the freezer side of the unit.there is a chance that the evaporator is frosting over to much and this is caused by a faulty defrost sensor and or a faulty defrost timer. but check the drain hole and make sure it is clear

I just opened up the back of my Frigidaire Side by Side counter depth to find the drain hose was bent and collapsed coming right out of the bottom of the freezer and the pan was dry as a bone. It doesn't look like my drain hose has ever drained a drop of water. The freezer bottom is full of ice And the rust and chipping paint under the bottom of the freezer door along with the mysterious puddles of water every morning means the drain system definetely never worked. Frigidaire should be responsible for this. This, along with the ice maker rebuild I had to do,... after ice was spilling all through the fridge. I actually had warrantty left on that one and called customer support in India to find out I could make the repair myself. Yep I had to do it. Frigidaire you failed.

How can I deterine if there is a problem with refrigerator, and not the power line, when the 'Power Failure' alarm keeps going off?

Hi friend, that's a great question!

I understand that your refrigerator FPHC2399KF is consistently reading a power failure. It might possibly be an issue with the control board or with your power source. Because it could be a number of any one of several underlying causes, I would recommend contacting a professional to properly diagnose and repair.-Matt

Ice keeps building up in bottom of freezer and on vent inside fridge and now fridge won't stay cold.

Clean the coil inside the rear access panel behind the unit with a spray air duster and check for this problem.

Frig not stayng cool. Freezer not freezing

most fridges have a evaporator dish or container.
it must be emptied ...and cleaned and disinfected.

now-a -days they are usually mated with the compressor and cool this unit down. notice there is no coil along the back of the fridge...it is usiually behind the fridge at the bottom with a cardboard or plastic access cover...
this will make the unit cool better and return the cooling to normal....
\next
clean out your freezer...i bet it's full of 4 month old packs of something you'll never eat....this will let the freezer breathe and circulate air to the coil ...i bet it has 3 in of ice on it...yikes...your not alone...most people do this...\
get a freezer if your getting ready for the apocalypse and liberate some room.
good luck
