Question about HP Compaq Presario CQ60-249US Notebook

HP Compaq Presario CQ60-249US PC Notebook, my trackpad and mouse buttons have stopped responding. I am trying to check the cable connections and possible install a new one. Anyone tell me how to remove them? A disassembly guide would be great

    Yes, there is a button directly above the mousepad, it turns it on and off and seems to be functioning correctly and is turned on. I don't have an external mouse I can use. Thanks for the help.

To access the mouse cable remove the battery - remove the screws securing the keyboard - carefully lift the keyboard out and check the security of the cable BUT in your instance look at the small on / off button in front of the mouse pad and ensure it is turned on ( blue light ) for on yellow off -- if it is blue go to Started - all programs - recovery manager - activate recovery manager - select advanced options - select reinstall a selected driver - select the touch pad driver - reinstall - reboot if that fails go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3872064#N1238 & download & install the latest touch pad driver. If still no go your up for a new top cover assy

a very very old Compaq.
right clicking the trackpad not the external usb mouse ????
you broke the cable to the track pad. switch set.
working on any laptop takes skills, to not do more damage
that you fix, even a pro makes this error. all do.
the cables are FRAIL, so are the sockets for them frail and break so very easy.
use a real USB mouse.
or go back inside and fix your damage.
its just a switch set and cables.
the pad part has its own electronics and its own cable and drivers.

if lucky only putting cable back fixes it.
do you know how to lock and unlock laptop ribbon connector locks and not damage them.
this is a first things first set of skills.
ask. (there are 3 kinds, what you have id have to look)
each kind uses different skills to work them. and not wreck them.

Compaq Presario CQ60 keypad and mouse are not responding, how do I fix?


go to recovery manager (by tapping F11 in the start) and check whether its working in the recovery manager or not. if the mouse is not working in recovery manager, then its a h/w fault.
and for keypad, go to CMD and check if any key is working or not.

Key board and mouse are not responding


if its a desktop check the connections make sure you don't have them switched.

Wireless Mouse won't respond


There would be sync button at the bottom of the mouse. Press and hold that button for 10 seconds while keeping the mouse inline with the receiver. Do let me know if that helps.

Try External USB keyboard - If that works -
remove usb kb

Open the chassis and reseat the kb connector. Try again.

If that fixes it, you're set. If not replace the kb.

hp presario cq60 connects to network but not to internet hp presario cq60 connects to networkb but not to internet. I replaced the wifi card. I've tried to connect to hot spots and to wireless routers. I can connect to them, but no internet. Says Local Only. I have tried the following... 1- Click Start, then type ncpa.cpl and press Enter 2- The "Network Connections" window will show up 3- Right click Wireless Network Connection and select Properties 4- Click the Networking tab. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 TCP/Ipv4 and then click Properties 5- Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" 6- Make sure also that "Obtain DNS server address automatically" is selected 7- Click OK Then please follow the steps below also: 1- Open Internet Explorer (even if you use another browser) 2- On Internet Explorer click Tools, then click "Internet Options" 3- Click Connections 4- Click "Lan Settings" 5- Make sure "Automatically detect settings" is SELECTED 6- Make sure "Use automatic configuration script" is UNCHECKED 7- Make sure "Use a proxy server......" is UNCHECKED 8- Click OK 9- Click Apply then Click OK I've also tried...1- Click Start, then Control Panel 2- Now click "Network and Internet" 3- Then click "Network and Sharing Center" 4- And then click "Manage network connections" on the left 5- Right click "Wireless Network Connection" and select Properties 6- Click the Networking tab. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 TCP/Ipv4 and then click Properties 7- Select "Use the following DNS server addresses:" and enter the following 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 (remove the old ones if you have it) 8- Click OK and wait 60 seconds or so. Then restart the computer and check. Nothing has worked. Still allows me to connect to a wireless modem or a hot spot but not to the internet. It displays "Access: Local Only". I've tried other laptops and they allow internet access using the same wireless modem or hot spot. Yet, as I stated before, When I was in the hospital, I could connect to their wi-fi and get internet access. I also can connect this laptop to an ethernet cable and connect to the internet.
