Thanx. I'd read previously about removin the 3 screws in the middle cover, but struggling as to whether this means the 3 screws that are inexcessible below display screen back edge or the 3 screws on display brackets!

Or should I be looking on the bottom of the laptop and removing one of those covers to find screws?

Here is a great deal on a replacement keyboard:
http://www.sunvalleyus.com/AcerKeyboard/Acer-5601AWLMi-5602WLMi.html
To replace it, first of all, remove the power connector and the battery before you do anything on that laptop.

remove the 3 screws in the middle cover. remove that middle cover by putting a screwdriver in one of those holes which are covering the displaybrackets. pull it up slowly. same thing goes for the opposite side.

remove the 2 screws which are holding the keyboard and the cable to the mainboard.
Reassembly is the reverse of dissasembly, be careful with the ribbon cable as its fragile, and there is a little plastic piece that either pulls up or pulls out that releases the cable.
One of the easiest repairs to a laptop there is.

Yes, the 3 screws on the bottom retain the center cover.

Then there are 2 screws under the cover to remove.

You should look in the Default Devices section of the settings. But it could just be bad contacts in the jack plugs of the sound card.

Spilled water on acer aspire 15 inch laptop

Bill:

Drying the keyboard with a hair dryer was not a good idea... Under the keys are layers of mylar with the circuits for the keys printed on them. If the mylar got hot it wrinkled and the keyboard may have been ruined. Try the keyboard after the batteries have dried, and if it does squirrely things, you'll probably have to replace the keyboard.

I have an acer aspire 5517 model spilt a beer in it,now of course some of the key are really sticky, when i try to enter my passwod i get several letters appearing with one key push, how do i remove keyboard...

Here you go: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/Manuals/acer/2009/ServiceGuides/SG_Aspire_5517_09172009.pdf
You may want to just replace the keyboard since they only cost in the $30 range. Do a google search on acer aspire 5517 keyboard.
The beer might have gotten into the motherboard which could be a real problem. Good luck.

To take the keys off, gently pull up on the top side of the keys until they snap off. Just push them down again and they'll snap back on.

Keypad spill on Acer Aspire 3613 Laptop

More than likely the pop has gotten inside your unit. you would have to open the unit, disconnect your keyboard, clean the leads and connectors to the keyboard. If the unit was on when this happened the mb may have shorted in which you would need a new kb.

Acer Aspire 5610 - one key does not work

Laptop keyboard are semi-sealed circuit boards. This means that liquid can get into the contacts and can not be cleaned. Depending on how much liquid was spilled on the keyboard chances are that the liquid has seeped around the edges of the keyboard and down onto the mainboard of the laptop. My first suggestion would be to keep the laptop turned off until you can remove the keyboard and check for liquid damage to the mainboard. If there is no damage to the mainboard I would suggest buying a new keyboard before turning the computer back on as any shorts caused by the liquid damage on the keyboard can cause damage to the keyboard controller circuit on the mainboard.
