Question about Kenmore 24 in. 16302 Built-in Dishwasher

Kenmore 16302 stuck on sensing cycle

I have a a Kenmore 665.16302403 (type 575-0) that is getting stuck on the sensing cycle. It will run for a very long time before eventually stopping with the dreaded "blinking clean light". The light flashes 7 times, pauses then 7 more and so on. I assume this means something regarding the problem, but I can't find any documentation. The Use and Care Guide says that the dishwasher senses the soil level of the water to determine the length of some cycles so I'm wondering if that sensor is either broken or blocked. I'm also wondering if it could be the temperature sensor. The temperature itself seems fine since when I open it up, steam comes out and it seems plenty hot in there.

Thanks Maanita. I took a look at the site and found the one really important piece of info: Look behind the kickboard. I feel a bit foolish for not looking there for the troubleshooting document and wiring diagram in the first place since I installed the dishwasher myself last year!

It turns out the 7 flashes indicate a problem with the heating cycle. The document gave me temperature ranges that the water should be at so I took my thermometer and checked it. Lo and behold, the water temperature was not very warm at all. Apparently I spoke too soon when I said it was "plenty hot in there". Steam does come out, but it is just what accumulates at the top due to the hot water entering the dishwasher. Just like what pours out of the bathroom when my daughter emerges from one of her marathon showers.

Anyway, I pulled out the heater element and checked the resistance and it was in the kilo-Ohm to mega-Ohm range while the document said it should be in the 10-30 Ohm range. I have since ordered a new heating element and am waiting to see if that fixes the problem once it arrives.

Just an update. I did finally get the new heater element delivered and installed it. It seems to have fixed the problem. The washer is working again and completing the cycle normally.

One interesting thing that I still don't quite understand though is the large discrepancy in prices for the heater element. Sears wanted $80 for one and shopping around on the web I found others with similar and even higher prices. The lowest I found was about $56 except for one that was only about $20 (www.appliancepartspros.com part# AP4325066). With delivery, it only cost me $27.43.  I'm not sure if there is anything different about this one, but it fit just fine and seems to be working. I checked the resistance before installing it and it was 12 Ohms which was inside the spec.

Dishwasher will operate only 10 min before stopping cycle

Check for places food could get stuck and clog the workings, including the drain hose.

Kenmore classic dishwasher washing cyle doesn't start

It sounds as if you need to replace the timer. The reset motor is separate from the primary motor--that is why one type of "cycle"--diagnostic-- seems to work but the regular cycle(s) do not.

My dish washer keeps running...for hours. It usuallt stick when the dial is at the 7 on a clock. Today we got it to continue through the whole cycle but now it does not drain. Any suggestions?

It sounds like a problem with the timer mechanism itself. Make sure there is nothing restricting the dial from turning (sticky gunk behind it, etc.).

Was running a wash cycle lastnight and it stopped running and the clean (green) light is blinking and won't turn off. When I push the Start button, there is a red blinking light. Help. It is a Kenmore...

Is your washer a front load? Does it have a small window where you read the stages or minutes left?
If so is there a code flashing in thet window?
Also what year is your model?

Green clean light keeps blinking

HI, Same thing happened to me today and Sears more than willing to charge me 200.00 for a 1 year service agreement. I found the answer on askmehelpdesk.com and the answer is: To reset a Kenmore Ultra Wash elite series dishwasher (stuck on clean) simply push heated/dry then normal wash and do the same thing again. Panel will reset itself and it hopefully will run normally again. Mine did and I am rejoicing! Julie
