Question about Garden

Idles just fine. Stalls when you press the gas. Trimmer is 5 years old. Choke operating alright. Fresh gasoil mixture. appears to be a fuel problem like it is not getting gas.

Idles ok revs up and stalls out

Check carburetor & air filter. Clean off all dirt and clean air filter. check age of gas. Cannot be more than 30 days old. Make sure to use fresh gas w/synthetic 2-cycle oil @ 40:1 ratio (1 gal.) Gas to 3.2 oz. Oil). Do not use old or stale oil/gas mixture. Before putting in fresh fuel, press the primer several times. A small amount of gas might show up in the fuel tank. Remove fuel. With carburetor cleaner, spray carburetor. Put in small amount of fresh fuel. Just enough to cover the fuel filter. Then press primer with fuel cap off, and watch to see if fuel is flowing smoothly. If not or if plastic primer bubble does not come back to original shape after pressing, then you have to take carburetor apart and clean or get new carburetor.

My lawn trimmer stalls out after running for several minutes

id Check the spark plug. If the electrode on the plug is worn , id replace the plug. Make sure you check the gap on the plug before, you install it. Id also check to see if the air cleaner is dirty, or not. If the air cleaner is dirty the engine can't breath. Is the gas old that's in the trimmer? If it is dump it out, an replace it with new gas/oil. Are you sure that you mixed the gas/oil correctly? Is there a choke button on the trimmer? Make sure that after you start the trimmer,an it warm's up a little you shut the choke back off.

My 1996 VF 750 C Magna starts fine with the choke open. After a minute or so as I reduce the choke and try to open the throttle, the engine just stalls out. Cannot seem to get the throttle to control

I think you are mixed up. The choke is usually closed to start a cold engine and opened once the motor warms up. The choke is closed to restrict the air flow and make the mixture richer in fuel. You can't open a choke that's already open. It's stalling because it's starved of fuel. Either a blockage or the fuel pump is not supplying enough gas.

Carburetor needs cleaning and probably diaphragms. Be sure to completely disassemble and pay very close attention as to where each diaphragm and gasket goes also make sure you remove the needle valve and clean screen.

Will run with full choke engaged but shuts off when switched to half choke. what is the problem? Is it gas problem?

It may be bad gas. The only way to know is mix up some fresh fuel mixture. Get as much of the old gas out of the trimmer and put the fresh in. It may also need the carburetor rebuilt because the diaphragms have gotten stiff over time and are not pumping fuel like they are suppose to.
Good Day.

Runs on choke a little

sounds like the carburetor has gummed up a bit, and may need adjustments - or, the fuel pickup in the tank has come loose [i.e.: deteriorated fuel lines] - also, make sure your gas mix is FRESH. if your gas mix is more than 2 months old, dump it

Ryobi 720r trimmer starts ok but stalls when the

The carburator needs to be adjusted a little, thin our your mixture screw when the trimmer is warmed up and idling. Well how do you get it to idle? I usually have to play with the choke lever with the throttle wide open going from choke to partial choke as needed to keep it running. Adjusting can be tricky, you need a small screwdriver. Screw all the way in then back out 3 to 3.5 turns. this should get you close. Adjust idle as needed.

1988 F-250 460 engine stalls when dribing down the road

On older, carbureted engines, cold stalling (and hard starting) is most often due to an automatic choke that is sticking, misadjusted or broken. Cleaning the choke mechanism with aerosol carburetor cleaner may free up the choke allowing it to work properly again. If the choke housing as an electrical heating element, the element may not be receiving voltage when the key is on, or the element may have burned out (check resistance with an ohmmeter).

Other causes of stalling with a carburetor include an idle speed adjustment screw that is set too low (turn screw to increase idle speed rpm). The engine may stall if the idle fuel mixture screw(s) are not adjusted correctly or the idle mixture port(s) are dirty or clogged with fuel varnish deposits (clean the carburetor and readjust the idle mixture screws for smoothest idle). Stalling can also occur is there are vacuum leaks in the carburetor, under the carburetor (bad base gasket), or any vacuum hose connections to the carburetor or intake manifold

Problem with gas trimmer staying started

Carburetor is out of adjustment. there are two carb adjustment screws on the side of the Carb. they require a special tool that is only $5 from your local mower repair dealer. those screws are the idle and Hi speed mixture adjustments. the carbs on Ryobi are set too lean. turn counterclockise to richen the mixture. just turn one eigth of a turn at a time. start w the hi speed.
