Question about Bushnell Sportsman 4x32 Riflescope (4x32 mm)

1 Answer

Yesterday I purchased a Bushnell Banner 4-12 x 40mm scope and mounted it on my RWS model 48 air gun per the scope mount manufacturer's instructions. After shooting my gun 4 times the cross hair broke and now I have the ring which the cross hair is mounted to floating around in my scope. Any advice on what I could and should do. Will Bushnell replace my broken scope with a new one? Paul

Paul,

to me it sounds like you have unfortunately been the victim of a manufacturers defect. the unique thing about shooting spring based airguns like your RWS and my Gamos is the effect of the recoil. it's different from traditional cartridge rifles but will never really be sufficient to ruin your scopes especially a bushnell. For now i would try to return your scope to the store you bough it from if that is within their returns policy. if not call bushnell at (800) 423-3537

here is their repairs process to help you decide what to do

My crosshairs have rotated yet the scope itself has not moved in its mounting. Is there an adjustment that allows me to rotate them back, or does this mean the scope is defective

You best bet is to contact Bushnell. There is no adjustment since the reticule is fixed inside the tube. The reticule should not be moving so this is a defect in your scope.

This is the Bushnell site for repairs and customer service. Contact them and explain your situation.

    Crosshair are turning to right

Are the turrets also turning to the right? If not, the crosshair ring has broken loose inside your scope, if so, you need to correct issues with your mounting system.

My banner scope in 4 to 12 wii not hold zero

I'd start by looking at the mounting bases.
First tighten the scope ring screws to 25 inch pounds, then loosen and remove the rings from the base(s) while still attached to the scope.
Back out the base screws one at a time, apply low strength thread locking compound and tighten each to 25 inch pounds.
Remount the rings/scope to the bases tightening till snug but not overly tight and sight-in the rifle.
Hope this helps, Mark the Gunsmith

it sounds like your saying the turret is wound over fully to the left?
if so the scope mount is at fult...the only way to pull the cross over to the right is to pack out the scope mount with old film on the right side of the scope this will make the scope shoot futher to the right

When adjusting for a couple of inches, the next shot is a foot off. It seems to wander all over the target.

! click is 1 inch @ 100 yards, provided you have the correct scope for the rifle.
If you are sighting in a .22 LR 40 grain match velocity bullet for 100 yards, the mid range trajectory (50 Yards) is 6" higher. The bullet has a 6" arc half way to your target. If you are sighting in a .270 with 150 grain blunt tail bullets for 250 yards, the mid range trajectory is .4 higher. It only has 4/10" arc half way.
You most match the scope to the gun, and the 1 click= 1 inch rule will apply. Otherwise, it's lock it into a righd mount, fire it and adjust the scope accordingly. If you want to change the range on the scope, it will be guesswork.
I use a Bushnell Banner 3-9X40 with BDC. If you have BDC, make sure you have the correct distance ring in for the caliber.. It will make all the difference in the world.

Bushnell Banner .22 scope with loose part inside.

It would be better to replace the minute you disassemble a scope unless resealed with special equipment it will never function as well nor will it be reliable and for a bushnell by time you payed for shipping to and from a repair place you'd be at cost of new so might as get new one which has newer glass types that are vastly better than 20 yrs ago

The top of my bushnell banner scope adjustment cap is broken

Google the model number and see if it is online anywhere. If not, you may have to vist gun shows, looking closely at old, "junk-filled" tables to find a "parts" scope or a replacement. In the long run, it might be wiser to get new scope, a Leopold would be the best, even if used. Good Luck!
