Hi there,

Well it need service to be obtained as soon as possible. This camcorder needs to be disassembled and dried out quickly in order to preserve it. Suspect that a fuse in power supply has opened to protect internal circuits as well as hd (hard drive), which is probably your power problem, but this needs to be opened, examined and dried (pc boards cleaned as liquid corrosion may occur). You can use a hair dryer to dry it, but do not use high heat.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for using FixYa!!

My camcorder won't play back tapes-or rather, it plays them, but they skip. This just started happening, and we have a new camcorder, but I have a lot of H8 tapes I can't get the video off of.

It may be a tape lubrication thing. Wet verses dry.
Some users swear by sticking to one brand.

Sometimes you can get drag or chatter when the lubes are mixed.
It may sort itself out, otherwise it's off to see the local Sony guy.

My camcrder got droped in the pool ,it will not power up

How wet? got rained on? or been in the North Sea for 10 years? if slightly wet by now you ought to have removed the Battery from cam, opened all hatches removed all media (if you can) stand in warm room (no camera not you) for about 6 days, then connect power and kneel.

My heads on the xm1 seem to be dirty, ive used a sony cleaning tape, it only makes a difference for an hr or two taping, any sugestions

Hi there,

Firstly, I must explain how the MiniDV system works:

Although this may sound illogical, MiniDV camcorder heads do actually use a type of lubrication cassette system and there are 2 types:

- DRY lubrication (Canon, Panasonic, JVC etc)
- WET lubrication (Sony)

Now, if you haven't noticed already from the above 2 types, you are in fact using the WRONG type of cassette on your camcorder.

Although Sony cassettes are often readily available (and often perceived to be the best quality), by using Sony cassettes on a Canon camcorder (or Pana, JVC for that matter), you are in fact causing premature wear on the heads. So, the condition you are describing as 'dirty' heads, is in fact caused by the use of the wrong (wet type) cassettes on your DRY type camcorder.

Using "WET" type cassettes on a DRY system camcorder, can often leave residue on your heads, or worse....cause wear. The same principle applies to Sony camcorders - use only Sony 'WET' type cassettes, not Dry cassettes.

This also applies when using HEAD CLEANER cassettes - as indicated, you have used a Sony Head Cleaner cassette (this is a WET type cassette), when in fact, you should be using a DRY HEAD CLEANER cassette (Pana, Canon etc).

CAUTION: when using a head cleaner cassette, only playback the cassette for no more than 6 sec's at a time (anymore will damage the heads).

Summary:

For your Canon camcorder, use only DRY MiniDV cassettes (Pana offer cassettes from Studio, Professional to Master Quality), including DRY Head Cleaner cassette. This should improve the playback quality from your camcorder.

Sanyo xacti digital camcorder screen not working when opened out

Hi!
It's most likely a damaged LCD cable which goes through the hinge - happens to many camcorders. You will have to contact your local Sanyo service center. I replace these cables for Sony camcorders every day.

Sorry for the bad news, but hope this helps.

Condensation operation of camcorder paused

Condensation problem is a common on newer camcorders. It is the sensor on the board that detects the condition of humidy. If you have not wet the camera or stored it in the humid area, the sensor or components around sensor is faulty. You can try to dry any humidity using hair dryer at medium setting in about 6 inches away for less than 5 minutes toward inside of tape loading area (make sure loading mech is at opened position). If this does not work, take it to recommended local camcorder repair facility for a diagnostics. Good Luck. CRJ

Camera won't power on from battery or power adaptor!

Water has got inside the camcorder. Dry it out gently in the airing cupboard for a week, then try again.
