Hello! Do you have the PDF users guide for your unit? I'm looking at a copy in the troubleshooting section...I don't want to cover information you have already looked at or tried...Since I do not know if you have that manual I'll give you a few items to check...

Measure the battery at the units power connector...Must be at least 11 volts DC...In portable mode it uses 8 D cell batteries= 12 volts
Make certain the Transducer is securely connected...
Did you use the in-line fuse supplied with the unit?...
Try the Manual Depth Range...First turn off Auto Depth Range...From the sonar Page Hit MENU...Down-arrow to Auto Depth Range...Hit ENT...Hit Up-Arrow to Depth Range...Hit ENT..
And the Depth Scale Range appears...Up-Arrow or Down-Arrow to select a different depth range...Hit Exit...The minimum depth the unit can read is 5 feet...

If you do not have the PDF guide, here is the link...

Have a hummingbird chartplotter and would like to use the chip in my pc what program would i have to have to run this

This kind of depends on what the SD card holds. If it is a blank card that you have saved sounder information (readings) onto then you will need to hit the Humminbird website and register your product. You can then download the Humminbird PC software to "replay" your sounding recordings. If it's an SD card that you bought for lake depths or gps then check with the manufactures website to see if they offer software to read the card on a pc.
visit http://www.humminbird.com/support/ and log into the Product Update section to download the most recent version of Humminbird PC

I have a Lowrance 7200C GPS (marine) unit with a "Navico 041-0680-17 chip. It doesnt show the depth contours, is there an upgrade or do I buy another chip? and if so, what chip will be best for my unit?...

Not showing the Depth Contours usually means it doesnt have that programmed on the chip.

The best Chips Ive ever seen, used or worked with for the Lowrance's are the "Navionics" and Fishing Hot Spots. Both can be obtained from Cabela's...either retail or online. And normally go from 99bucks for last years maps to 199 for this years. Hope this helps.

In lakes that are not clear I have trouble adjusting my x96.

This depends on how muddy or clear the water is. If muddy or there is a LOT of floating sediment in the water, most fishfinders will have trouble getting a good image through the dirty/brackish water. You might not be doing anything wrong in this case.

Sensitivity and grayline are your main adjustment settings, assuming you have your transducer located correctly at the right depth in relation to your hull and the waterline as well.

Does the clutter extend all the way from the surface to the bottom? If so, try reducing sensitivty... if clutter is moreso near the surface or top of the screen, then this is probably because the transducer is getting aerated water or distrubed water over it and causing the clutter and readings.

As a good rule, match the sensitivity setting tot he grayline setting. I.e. if you have sensitivity at 90%, put grayline at 90% also.

Hope that helps!

MapCreate Topo does not have lake maps. There are 'some' maps on Lowrance's web site (Free Enhanced Lake Maps) but you may need to purchase lake maps on SD cards for the area you're interested in.

I have a lcx 28c hd fish finding sonar and mapping gps

I've had several similar units, and used them with Navionics HotMaps Premium series chips. You must select Menu. The "Browse files" to access the MMC card option. Once the selection screen opens, choose which card or file you want.

FYI...All of Lowrances HD models come preloaded with pretty much every major lake and river in the US.

Lemme know if this helps...

Not reading properly

You might try adjusting the Grayline setting. It's purpose it to distinguish between hard & soft bottoms. Press MENU, select GRAYLINE, the scale appears like when adjusting sensitivity you can adjust up or down with arrow keys. Get over a non reading soft bottom then adjust. The change is reflected on the screen as you adjust it.
