Question about Lakewood 200I Floor / Box Fan

Open Question

I need a replacement power cord for a Lakewood box fan.

The cord has plugs on both ends. The end that plugs into the fan needs to be female. The fan has two small posts that the plug goes into. It looks like the plug for an electric razor. I looked online but could not find one.

SOURCE: no power getting to my Lakewood fan...

Maybe you tripped over it so hard you de soldered the wires form the inside. Have you openned it? Try it out if you didn't. Check the power cord and follow it all the way into the motor (with the motor openned). Check if one or both cables on the inside are desoldered.

SOURCE: need help with fixing my lakewood floor fan.

try cleaning it and put oil especially at the base of the shaft.then try wiggling the shaft for bushing tolerance.if you feel the shaft wiggles to wide, then you'll need to replace the bushing and the shaft.but before anything else check the thermal fuse.it is found on the motor itself or try to borrow a tester with resistance measurement to check for continuity of the winding by connecting the probes with the plug, one each terminal.then turn the fan on.the pointer should move if its ok, unless burn out.if not.then the thermal fuse blow-out.

SOURCE: need replacement for lakewood box fan power cord

Use some needle nose pliers on the prongs and bend them back. They will be fine unless they broke off.

Need electric wire to plug into fan and then connect to electric outlet Where can I get one?

  • Lakewood is long out of business and a stock cord is going to be next to impossible to find. But I can help you save some money and some headaches trying to find a new cord.
  • If I remember right the 007 utilizes a simple two prong cord. The tip of the cord is simple the fatter end is your ground and the smaller end is the AC power feed. These fans don't draw to terribly much power either.
  • It is a rare occasion I would buy an original cord because they are so darn over priced. Here is what I would do.
  1. Go to your local hardware store and get a cord with a two pron tip on it. This may cost $6 top. Just a medium use cord will work for this fan.
  2. Now you will see the wires for the cord on the back of the fan motor. The hot wire is usually black (In the USA and Canada) The green wire is ground and the white wire is neural. (This is for a three wire setup. For two wire omit the white wire. The wires on your fan should be colored Black and Green. Just remember that black is the hot wire and the other is the ground.
  3. To make this less difficult the black wire off the fan will go to the wire that leads to the small end of the connector and the other wire (ground) will go to the wire (on the new cord) that tracks to the thick en of the connector. Placing your new cored flat and even makes this easier.
  4. You will need to soldier the ends (or crimp the wires together) and make sure you insulate them with liquid electric tape, shrink tube etc.
  5. Total cost should be less than $7.
  6. I did find one place that sells the 3 prong cord http://www.nelsonappliance.com/Power+Cords+for+Lakewood+model+MC42+Fan.html for the fans. If yours should be a 3 prong tip then this one will work too but if memory serves yours is a two tip cord.

  • If you have any questions or comments please feel free to ask but you won't find a stock cord just for this fan because they are out of business.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Trying to find replacement electric cord for Lakewood mc 24 lg drum fan

The Lakewood fan uses a computer power supply type female plug.
This is known as a C13 plug: three rectangular female outlets in a triangular pattern.
You should be able to find this type of plug at a good electronics store;
Fry's Electronics would be a good choice.
It may not come in the 10 foot length of the original, but that is what extension cords are for. :)

Power cord will not light up where it is inserted into the laptop unless you hold it steady. It will not charge unless it is held in a certain position. Is the male part on the cord bad or is it the female...

You'll need to get another power cord that is identical in power and polarity and plug. One can buy a generic power supply from Walmart that will power most laptops or Radio Shack (Walmart is probably cheaper).

Once the new power supply is obtained, try it, and if the same thing happens, then the problem is in the female plug connection to the motherboard of the Compaq Presario C762NR Notebook.

The Notebook will have to be disassembled and the female plug connection to the motherboard will have to be replaced.

If the male plug end shows any fraying or excessive bending signs, then I would definitely replace the cord.

It is difficult to determine which is bad, the male or female part without changing the easiest part... the power supply.

Also, you could go to your local Compaq dealer and ask to plug in one of their power supplies to your computer and tell them the problem that you are having, determining which is bad, the male or female part of your power supply.

Good luck on this repair.

Dog chewed the cord;its the kind that plugs into back of motor. Is there anywhere to get a replacement?

I feel it would be cheaper to replace the fan cord than to the dog.
As this is a DIY site, I would recommend that you repair the cord. Cut both the ends of the cord such that you have about a foot of the cord left with the wall plug and the fan socket. Procure a few meters of a double or triple cord depending what you have in your fan presently. Peel off the insulation on all eight or twelve ends of the wires and join them one by one to the wall plug and the fan socket to both the ends of the newly acquired cord. And insulate each joint with insulation tape individually and then collectively. So you have two joints on the cable if you look at it casually. What you need to procure is:
1. A cord double or triple core depending on the original one in the fan now.
2. A small roll of insulation roll.
3. A dog leash.

It seems like no power is going to the fan. it is completely dead when turned on

Fan is pretty simple, plug, cord, switch or motor. You can check the 1st 3 with an ohm meter. Just check for continuity, seeing if the different parts are good. If all are good, need new motor, or replace fan.

Roof top air won't come on

If you are running the AC on an extension cord it can cause such voltage drop that a fuse or breaker can blow, in extreme conditions it can damage electrical connections. Always use extension cords that are as short as possible and replace the cord ends (especially the female end) whenever they lose clamping force. A heavy duty cord end takes much more effort to plug in the male end and to plug things into the female end. Over the counter extension cords for your purpose should be no less than 12/3 with heavy duty (20 amp) ends and no more than 50' long, if you must go farther you should use a 10/3 cord.

The monitor has and adapter type power cord that plugs into the computer end of the VGA cable. Look for a small round hole at the PC end of the cable.
