My computer won't recognize that I've connected the camera in its USB port; the driver that came with the camera is for Window 98. The documentation says it's not necessary to install driver for Windows XP (my system), and I can't install it from the disk. Likewise, I can't transfer my pictures.

If installing the driver doesn't work, perhaps you could get a card reader. Make sure that the card reader can read SD Cards. Plug it into a USB slot and put the camera's SD Card into the card reader. Your PC should detect the SD Card as a hard drive. You can then transfer the files like you normally do in Windows.

Digital Cameras i lost my cd. how do i down load my pic off my i531 5.0

You don't need any special software.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what I said first, you can use any photo cataloging program, such as iPhoto on Mac or Windows Photo Gallery on Windows.

Try NOT using a driver.

I need the win xp drivers for the polaroid i531

Try using a separate card reader to download your pictures to a folder you create on your desktop. Then you don't need the drivers.

Windows NT4 and Windows 2000

Windows 2000 A new camera TWAIN driver (version 0.1) compatible with Windows 2000 is now available for download. The new TWAIN driver will allow photo transfer using most image viewing or editing programs that are TWAIN compatible. NOTE: In order for the version 0.1 driver to work correctly, the PhotoMAX software must also be compatible with Windows 2000. The PhotoMAX SE software originally included with the Fun! Flash 640 is not compatible with Windows 2000. If you use your camera and computer with the original PhotoMAX SE software, contact the Polaroid Parts Department for more information about purchasing a PhotoMAX software upgrade. Windows NT4 No TWAIN driver is available for use with Windows NT4.

Can I use the PDC 700 with Windows Me?

The PDC 700 camera TWAIN driver is not 100% compatible with Windows Me because it does not support USB downloads. No new driver software is available from Polaroid -- however, a compatible TWAIN driver is available from a third-party source. The Pretec DC-800 is the functional equivalent of Polaroid's PDC 700. Pretec's DC-800 Setup Disk for Windows 95/98/ME/2000 is available for download at its online Driver Download Center. Testing done by Polaroid has shown that this driver works with the PDC 700 using the listed operating systems, including Windows Me. When accessing the camera with image editing software compatible with the computer's operating system, the camera driver appears as Digital Camera 1024X768 Driver.
