Question about Fellowes PS60C-2 Shredder

1 Answer

Both red & green lights light up simultaneously when I turn the PS60C-2 on, and it does not start up when paper is inserted. When I lift the head off the container I can hear and feel something heavy rolling around in the head. Both these symptoms appeared for the first time this morning. Can I dismantle and re-attach whatever has broken loose? Or is this likely to be a job for a professional?

If you are mechanically inclined you can repair this at home. You will need to order a new gear kit. Click on the link below to view

    Thank you, Mike.

Update: I found the hidden screw; opened the head, and found that the mount on a heavy little black box (? a transformer) had broken. I glued and re-attached it.

Both lights still lit up simultaneously -- until I jiggled the little chrome tab visible through the slot at the back. When I pressed up on this tab, it switched off the red light and the shredder worked.

Might this be a safety switch intended to stop the shredder from running when it is not sitting on the bucket?

Something is still misbehaving: I don't see what would normally press this switch. and Why?

Am I potentially damaging something by pressing this switch to make the shredder work?

Thank you, Mike for your response.

But it provides only part of the answer.

I found the eighth screw hidden behind one of the labels -- opened the head, and found that a heavy black box (?a transformer?) had a broken mount. I glued and re-attached it.

The red and green lights both lit up simultaneously when I turned the shredder switch on, but the shredder did not start. I jiggled the little chrome tab that is visible through the slot at the back, and found that when I pressed up on that tab, the red light turned off, and the shredder worked. So I don't think the gears are damaged.

Then I realized that a little rectangular rubber washer that I had found tangled in the shredder blades had a hole just the right size to fit over the chrome tab/lever/switch. When I installed it there, and re-assembled everything, the shredder worked properly.

I suspect that when my daughter-in-law vaccuumed a little too vigorously, she knocked it over, and this broke the transformer mount. When I lifted the head off the bucket to empty it, the transformer rolled around and knocked the rubber washer off the chrome switch.

The red light is blinking and it doesn't print.

There are actually some certain meaning on the red light and green light showing different information to user. The summaries are:
1) Green On, Red Off = Printer Ready.
2) Green Fast-Flashing, Red Fast-Flashing = Printer warm up.
3) Green Fast-Flashing, Red Off = Printer off-line.
4) Green Slow-Flashing, Red Off = Processing Data.
5) Green Off, Red On = Cover Opened, Toner Empty or Developer Unit / Drum unit missing.
6) Green Off, Red Fast-Flashing = Paper Jam or waiting for jam reset.
7) Green Off, Red Slow-Flashing = Paper Empty or Paper tray is not inserted.
8) Green Off, Red Off = Printer power is off.
9) Green Very-Slow-Flashing, Red Off = Printer in sleep mode.
10) Green (any condition above), Red Slow-Flashing = Toner low or paper empty.

So what is your printer condition? Better know what is going on your printer so can solve the problem.

Fellowes PS60C-2 shredder doesn't shred

there are two switches under the cutter area. 1 for sensing when your basket is full, (sometimes these bin-full flaps get stuck in the up position, energizing the switch) and the other is a switch that detects if your basket is installed. fellowes has modified these shredders so many times, that there are alot of different configurations. look for something that resembles a flap under the head and make sure its in the down position. as for the basket sensor, some baskets had 2 projections on the left and right top of basket. one may be broke. if so, you can "cheat" the switch with a screwdriver to see if thats the problem.

Light keeps flashing red,amber, green

If you turn off the printer and turn it back on, do you get any noises, ie motor noises, or does it instantly go to all lights flashing?
If you get no noises this usually indicates a board fault and you should look for a new printer.
