Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

1 Answer

I have a maytag fav6800aww washer that I have been toublshooting for weeks. I have serviced the clutch and it is fine. I was having a problem with the final spin but I could get around it by simply running a spin only cycle but then my pump quit. The problem I have now is that the new pump I installed runs non stop. Any time the washer is on the pump is running. Any ideas

Hi.

Replace the pressure switch. In normal conditions the pressure switch allow energizing the drain pump until pressure and water is detected, then it opens the pump circuit stopping the pump when no water is detected. If the pressure switch is faulty, it will stay open , preventing the pump from operating.

Here the part: I have a maytag fav6800aww - _.gifPS2026659 . The pressure switch is part nr.9 in diagram below. Click on picture to enlarge.

My problem is not that the pump will not start it is that it will not turn off. Will a bad switch cause both problems?

Re:"My problem is not that the pump will not start it is that it will not turn off. Will a bad switch cause both problems?"

Yes. The pressure switch detects the water level and determines when the pump stops and start. If the pump does not start, then the pump itself or the lid switch (on some model) can be the cause, but if the pump does not stop, then it is almost for sure the pressure switch. If the problem does not go after replacing the switch, then the timer control is responsible, but this is rather unusual.

    Replace the pressure switch.

Work fine but when spin mode makes a lot of noise (CLICKING SOUND)

More than likely a Clutch issue. Google this Google these text phrases for support Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW to the 5th post down in that Sticky. I go thru how to remove the Clutch Pulley and inspect for wash water damage caused by a leaky Tub Seal.

I will help you on that forum if you want to DIY. Go to the Maytag/Magic Chef/Admiral/Jenn-Air forum and post your issue for help. I check it every day for FAV6800A and FAV9800A issues.

Once washer hits spin cycle (12 min. left) it throws a DC code. Checked the TDS sensor - OK, motor control - OK, spinning the tub by hand in CCW feels smooth. Haven't taken apart to clean and lube...

This is a Clutch issue.

My neptune tl fav6800aww starts, then I believe at th first spin cycle starts then stops. Then it starts a loop of this process and never continues on. No error codes are displayed. When I open the lid...

Open the washer lid and see if you can rotate the wash basket CCW this is the Spin direction.

The wash basket should not rotate CW. If the the wash basket will not rotate CCW then I feel the One-Way Roller Clutch bearing is seized. If you place the washer cycle in a Spin Only cycle I believe you may see the same fail process with no error code.

If you want to DIY the fix Google this Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW. That will take you to a FAV6800A Sticky.

I feel you will find that the Clutch has failed due to a leaky Tub Seal. A replacement Clutch Pulley will more than likley get you back in service. Once you have the Service Manual you can pull the front cover off drop the Clutch Pulley out and inspect.

I won't offer any more help on this site it is just to difficult to work issues. You can see by past ratings I know the machine and have helped owners. If you are not the DIY type then callin in a Service Repair will cost $65 to $90 range and more than likely they will not have a clue. Go thru the FAV6800A forum here and search the post. i.e. this is typical repair service result for support........ http://www.fixya.com/support/t8683813-6_year_old_maytag_neptune_tl_washer_just

Not hammering service people, most just don't have the hands on knowledge to diagnose machine issues. Once you know the fail point anyone that has very basic mechanical skill sets can repiar the machine. Go to the forum that has the Sticky and open up an issue in the Maytag washer part of that forum and I will help. I scan the forum a few times a day. If you are not into a DIY fix just disregard this post.

GETTING DC ERROR CODE WITH A GRINDING SOUND AND THEN IT STOPS COMPLETELY

The DC error code is 9 time out of 10 caused by a Clutch Pulley malfunction. The grinding may ne Outer Tub Bearings but need more info. Open the Washer Lid. Spin the wash basket CCW. Do you hear and grinding noise?

The noise may be coming from under neath the tumblers. Further troubleshooting is required.

Do you have basic DIY mech. skills and do you want to save your $1K machine?

If so Google Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW

The barrel wobbles so bad it kicks off the machine with error UD

This was my issue several weeks ago, very common problem with the FAV6800AWW.

""I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors in the spin cycle, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove the clutch pulley. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 4 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found a link on this site, good luck""
