Question about Weather King 10AJA6001AH Air Conditioner
The unit is completely out of freon and the compressor has failed. I've been told to replace the unit. It would be cvost prohibotive to repair the unit.
I have been out of the air conditioner service sector for a while. I wanted you to know up front that I may be out of date. When running service I replaced many compressors for a fraction of the cost of a new unit. Many of these customers had been told the same thing. Service companies make allot more on a new unit than they do repairing an old one. Many don't have anyone capable of replacing a compressor. Get more than one opinion and if you replace the whole unit get more than one bid. Make sure all of the bids are for the same tonnage, or btu unit. Some lower bids are for a smaller unit that won't keep up after it has a little wear or the coils get a little dirty. If your unit is more than ten years old you should consider a new one. If not, if you can find a honest company it should be worth replacing the compressor. Replacement compressors, if installed by a certified tech, have at least a five year warranty.

The manual reset procedure is as follows : ----
First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take approx 4 to 6 hours for your refrigerator to regain its regular cooling/ freezing .So after 4 to 6 hours check , Is the refrigerator cooling properly or is it taking time or temp is dropping once you open close door. If this problems are not noticed, then reset procedure has helped.------- But if same problem is noticed after reset procedure is followed, then you can get the compressor checked. -------- This should help. Thanks.Helpmech.
