Question about Husqvarna Craftsman 36cc, 16 In. Gas Chain Saw

Bar bolt on Husqvarna 142e spins.

I finally cut off the nut as one of the bar bolts spins when I try to tighten or loosen the nut. I am not sure if the head of the bolt is damaged or if the flange on the plate-bar stud / bracket is damaged. How do I get into this area and check and replace the broken or damaged part (either bar bolt or plate-bar stud)? It looks like the assembly is under the clutch cover. If I need to remove this - will I run into troubles putting the cover and band brake back on?

Go to Searspartsdirect.com and enter the complete Sears model number minus the decimal point. That should bring you to a series of replaceable parts diagrams plus part numbers. If the bolt is not listed as a separate part, then likely it is part of the fuel tank assembly. Hope this helps!

Tightening chain


Tightening chain is performed by adjusting the bar. Two bolts generally hold the bar in place. Loosen these. Make sure that chain has enough play to easily move by hand. If it sticks, it's too tight. Then tighten the bar, check the chain oil, and cut wood.

Cant loosen the bolt that holds my alternator on, for my 2006 2.4 camry, ive been using a 14 mil ring spanner and trying to turn it anti clock wise? also how do you loosen the belt?


Try using a 14mm socket and extension bar.
If you do not have that then simply get a 19mm ring spanner and use it as an extension bar onto the open end of the 14mm spanner.
Once loosened you will also need a12mm ring spanner to loosen the pinch bolt that holds the alternator belt adjustment bracket.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Section 00-02 .
  1. Support vehicle with hoist or safety stands behind front sub-frame (5C145).

Installation

  1. Lubricate inside diameter of new stabilizer bar bracket insulator with Rubber Suspension Insulator Lube E25Y-19553-A meeting Ford specification ESF-M99B112-A or equivalent. Do not use any mineral or petroleum based lubricants as they will deteriorate the rubber stabilizer bar bracket insulators.
  1. Install new stabilizer bar bracket insulators onto front stabilizer bar and position them in approximate location.
  1. Install stabilizer bar bracket on stabilizer bar bracket insulators and install new bolts. Tighten to 55-63 Nm (40-46 lb-ft).
  1. Raise front sub-frame and install new front sub-frame-to-body retaining bolts. Tighten to 115-132 Nm (85-97 lb-ft).
  1. Install front stabilizer bar link (5K483) to front shock absorber. Use care not to damage link ball joint boot seal.

CHAIN AND BAR KEEPS LOOSENING UP AFTER 3 TO 4 CUTS. RESET TENSION AND BAR AND LOOSENS AGAIN AFTER 3 TO 4 CUTS.


Are you holding the nose of the bar up as you tighten the bar nuts?
You loosen the bar nuts and gravity pulls the bar down. You check the chain and the tension is correct, tighten bar nuts. Begin a cut and the bar slowly moves upward (no matter how tight the bar nuts) and the chain becomes slack.

  1. Make sure the chain brake is off (gloves will protest your fingers).
  2. If necessary, loosen the bar nuts that are clamping the clutch cover in place (or whatever holds the clutch cover and bar on). They don't need these really loose - finger tight will do.
  3. Ease the tension adjustment until the chain is obviously loose.
  4. Using one hand, hold the nose of the bar up.
  5. While holding the nose up, adjust the tensioner so that the center of the chain just touches the underside of the bar, add a touch more.
  6. Continue holding the nose of the bar up & tighten up the bar nuts / bolts / quick-release system.
One more likely possibility, is the chain isn't being oiled.
Checking chain lubrication
Aim the tip of the bar at a light colored surface about 20
cm (8 inches) away. After 1 minute running at 3/4 throttle
you should see a distinct line of oil on the light surface. HTH

How to replace a front wheel bearing for a 1999


Removal: Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. Remove caliper assembly. DO NOT allow caliper to hang from brake hose. Always support caliper by wiring it to frame. Remove rotor.
Loosen and remove ABS speed sensor mounting screw. Carefully remove sensor head from steering knuckle. If sensor head is seized due to corrosion, use hammer and brass punch to tap sensor. Tap edge of sensor ear, rocking sensor from side to side until it is free. DO NOT use pliers on sensor head.
Remove axle shaft nut. Remove 3 bolts securing hub assembly to steering knuckle. Pull hub straight back from knuckle. If hub is corroded, pry between hub flange and knuckle
Fully remove knuckle pinch bolt. Insert pry bar between lower control arm and steering knuckle. Push down on pry bar to separate ball joint stud from steering knuckle. Ensure ball joint dust boot is not damaged during removal. Loosen and remove strut-to-knuckle nuts. Bolts are serrated where installed into knuckle. DO NOT turn bolts in steering knuckle. Use soft-face hammer to drive bolts out of knuckle. Remove knuckle from vehicle.

Installation: To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. DO NOT fully tighten axle nut until vehicle is on ground. Ensure hub mounting surfaces are clean and free of foreign material. Coat speed sensor with high temperature grease before installing onto knuckle.

A/c belt relacement


DO this with a COLD engine, so you do not burned by a hot engine...Loosen the 14 millimeter nut on the idler/tensioner pulleythat the AC belt rides on. Do NOT remove the nut, or the pulley will fall off. Then loosen the long 12 millimeter bolt, which will remove tension, and will let the pulley extend. Remove the old belt. Spin the tensioner pulley with your hand, make sure that it spins free & is not noisy, Fit the new belt, and tighten the 12 millimeter bolt until the pulley retracts,and tightens the belt. Finally, retighten the 14 millimeter nut.

Problem installing new toilet bolt covers.


unthread the nut as far as possible, then tighten it one full turn. Cut off the top with a hacksaw or dremel grinder and re-try. The bolts are cheap. A small jewelers file may help. Look for the damaged thread and remove the burr.

Changeing chain


Sure, all are very similar and I can tell you without a manual. Loosen the nuts that holds the chain bar to the body. Loosen the slot headed screw that tensions the chain on the bar,( you may have to dig into some stuck on sawdust that may cover the screw) then pull the chain and bar off together. I would flip the bar over to get the advantage of a good square surface for the new chain to wear against on the bottom. Now make sure the cutting bits on the new chain face away from you on the top as it moves on the bar and you are set to replace it on the mounting studs. When you replace the sprocket cover, make sure the tensioner peg goes into the bar slot then snug up the bolts a bit and tighten the chain til you can pull it away about 1/2 inch from the bar when properly tensioned. now further tighten the bolts and enjoy.

Serpentine belt


Hey there hardrock,
  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator.
  • The tensioner pulley is near the Alternator toward the center of the engine. It's on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done
