The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. There is a video at http://appliancehelponline.com/gasoventroubleshootvideo.html this will walk you thru the correct procedure for performing this test. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

Oven slow at starting, there is smell of gas before oven turns on

If there is a smell of gas PLEASE STOP USING IT you risk fire or explosion or both. Please get a registered Gas-fitter to look at this. If you can Turn OFF the Gas at the Wall/Outlet. Until it can be looked at. If you smell gas it is very dangerous.

Our oven doesn't heat and smells like gas

This sounds like a weak igniter, it would have to be a gas oven and the symptoms usually are: takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, does not maintain set temperature or burner does not come on fully, eventually won't heat at all. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Oven is slow ot light and has a gas smell when

Hi, this sounds like a weak igniter, it would have to be a gas oven and the symptoms usually are: takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, if it does light the burner, there may be delayed ignition (pop), does not maintain set temperature or burner does not come on fully, eventually won't heat at all. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Our oven smells of gas and takes forever to heat

It may be that the heating element is dirty and consequently, is not igniting the gas. Mine was doing the same thing and was also making a big BOOM sound which was the sound of the gas in the oven igniting after too much gas was released.

I called a friend who gave me these instructions and it worked...I was able to fix it in about 30 mins.

1. Remove the floor of the oven...there are two screws along the back wall of the oven holding the oven pan (the floor of the oven) in place. remove these two screws using a Phillips screw driver. The oven floor pan will then pull out.

2. Remove the thick steel plate next which is located in the center...just under where the oven floor pan sits. Remove the the right and left screws located along the outside edge of the oven floor rim and the center nut. I used a cresent wrench for the two screws and the center nut...didn't feel like finding the right socket size and don't have the special screw driver fitting.

3. You will see an aluminum pipe that runs down the center from the front to the back. Near the back and mounted to right side of the aluminum pipe there is the heating element. It is protected by a metal casing. There are two screws securing it to the housing. With your wrench, remove the two screws and gently pull it back. The heating element is made of a ceramic material and is delicate. Using a tooth brush, gently brush the heating element to clean it.
