There are many models of MacBook Pro. Without the serial number I cannot provide the correct procedure to reset your unit's power manager. If you can provide it, we can proceed.

If you've tried everything, it's time for the Genius Bar. I had the same problem with mine, (something to do with hard drive they said), but they fixed it, free. Also, remember that even if your laptop's out of warranty, often times these type of problems are universal, that is, it's a technical malfunction due to Apple manufacturing; there may even be a class action in place, in which case they'll fix it at no cost to you. Do your research on the latter before taking it in, but do call and make an appointment; sometimes it's a long wait.

How do I get my iMac to double as a monitor for my laptop?

Hi Mark,

You can't use an iMac as a 'monitor'. But you could use Apple's screen sharing.

On the MBP, go to System Preferences -> Sharing, and check the box for Screen Sharing. Now, on the iMac, in Finder select the MBP and then click the Screen Sharing button. You can now work with your MBP on the iMac. I do this a lot, you can even run the MBP in a 'Space' at full screen.

Thanks,
John

MBP intel graphics not working?

To test, use an external dongle. If you get something showing, the board is good and the screen/connection are bad. If nothing, then the logic board is probably bad.

MBP cannot start black scteen with boot up sound

Hi JJ Su,
To connect an external monitor to your MacBook Pro, you will need an adapter that connects to the mini-display port on the MBP, and has another plug that is appropriate for your external display {VGA or DVI}.
Take a look at Amazon to find a relatively inexpensive adapter if you don't already have one.
-Please make sure that you order the right kind of adapter for your MBP since there Apple has used 2 different kinds of ports depending on the particular model!
FYI, if the external monitor doesn't work either, then you probably have a bad GPU {Graphic Processor Unit} on the motherboard. IF the external does work, then you either have a bad internal screen, or some bad connectors/wires inside the MBP...
Hope this helps & good luck!

I can't view videos

What formats are you trying to view?
For example Apple won't play .mkv and some .avi's.

.MP4 works fine in general because it is apple own format.

Should you want to play the above mentioned formats (of course you do), try a video player like VLC. Works like a charm for me on my MBP.

Get the older 3.X version of Nikon Scan online.
It works fine with my 4000ED Firewire on a MBP running OSX 10.6.
For some reason my 5000ED USB runs fine on NS 4.0.2 and 10.6 on an older iMac, but 4.0.2 won't run at all on the MBP. Don't know why. Installed, uninstalled and reinstalled many times. No luck.

Macbook Pro goes from gray apple screen to black

Try booting into single user mode by pressing Command+S while booting. You should then be at a prompt. Type in:
fsck -f
and press Return. Let it run and see if it corrects any filesystem issues, then reboot when it's done.
