Question about Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook

3 Answers

CD/DVD So i have had this Dell Inspiron for coming up on 3yrs now, the past i would say 6months to a year, the DVD drive, will sometime read DVD's but not other CD's with anything other than movies on it, I have been trying like crazy to fix it without purchasing a new CD/DVD case external or internal. Sometime it will read DVD's other time it won't. You can here it spin up like normal, then it will stop, spin up again, and then flash 3 times, and the computer won't read it. I have no viruses, i have all updated software, i have cleaned it, i have removed it and checked the connection for bent pins, i am about out of ideas, besides completely reformating my computer, or getting a new one, anybody got a clue to possible fix it......

Same problem, insert disc, spins as if it is trying to read, does that about three times and stops. No audio, video, access to files, nothing! It is starting to get frustrating. Hope to find solution soon without having to take to service rep.

I have been having the same problem for about 3 months now. My computer is almost 3 years old. It reads some CDs/DVDs and will not read others. I've tried cleaning it and have also checked for viruses etc and nothing has helped. I hope to find a solution without having to get a new drive.

I've used this one and it sped up my computer by quite a bit. Hopefully this helps.

I think the problem is not your software or the system. The main problem is the head or lens of the dvd try to clean it by using a cotton bud don't use any liquid to avoid the damage of the lens or head.

If you try cleaned already the head lens in nothing happened . I suggest that you need to replace that dvd drive .Because even you can fixed that by cleaning the lens but later on or how many day you use the problem is back again because the lens is over use already or damage.

Dell Inspiron 1420 is not able to read empty cds or DVDS. My I go to properties it shows empty space as 0. When I try to burn a Cd it says " Insert a blank CD"

Stephen buddy, we need to talk. I do NOT understand anything you are trying to describe. Okay, so you installed a FRESH Operating System and now it is NOT recognizing your DVD-rom, right? Okay, restart the computer and let Windows load up fully. Check Control Panel and check your list of Devices. Sometimes, when you re-install and O.S., you may have to update the firmware or drivers for certain devices.

My dvd burner reads dvd's but will not burn them it reads and rites cd's I have no idea what the problem is but i could use some assistance my computer is a dell inspiron b130

The Inspiron B130 is an older (5 to 6 years) budget pc with an optical drive that can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs. So your problem is not really a problem but rather a limitation. On my dell inspiron 5160, I can play cd & dvd, & record cd but can not record on blank dvd, Roxio says drive is empty and no space?? I have fixed graphics card and reinstalled xp, hope you can help...

Are you sure it is a DVD writer, the specs for this laptop has a number of different drives one of which is a DVD/CD combi drive meaning it can read and write CD's but only read/plays DVD's.
Check the drive fascia if it says DVD-rom then it only reads them.

My Dell Inspiron 700 laptop with Windows XP suddenly will not boo

Remove the hard drive, then see if you can boot to the XP CD. If you can, then the Hard DIsk Drive has most likely failed. Reseat the HDD and try booting to CD again. If problem comes back, try a new hard drive.
