Acer aspire one starts to boot up stops at windows xp screen

Hi there !

I suggest you try to run your computer on safe mode by pressing F8 when booting up. Advance menu options will pop up and choose run on safe mode. When it load the Windows, try to figure out what you installed or you before your computer happens. I suggest that you download also windows registry cleaner to fix some errors in your computer that prevent you to go to windows screen when booting up on normal mode. Run the FULL SCAN and press the fix errors button.

I should somehow help your computer.

XP is obsolete and unless you have SP3, there are no drivers from Microsoft.
Go to hp.com and download the Win7 drivers. That will fix your problem, if they are available for your model.

F8 stop responding

When you are reinstalling Windows XP SP2, you may need to check that your installation disk is not scratched or dirty, if so clean or replace. Also when your booting off the CD, just give it some time as it may be slower than others. I have done numerous new installs and will admit that there are some issues when doing new installs on outdated hardware and also goes for Linux installs as well. Give it time, if you think it locked up it may not have. Also don't rush the install (hitting F8 as soon as you see the license agreement) wait a few minutes then hit F8.
Hopefully this helps you. May also want to upgrade hardware such as RAM or if you want go a little further and upgrade the CPU as well if you have the time and money but make sure your PC/Motherboard supports the upgrades.
