I don't think these two issues are interrelated with each other. Regarding your Keyboard, before we proceed, you need to try with another external usb/ps2 keyboard. Connect an external keyboard to your laptop and check whether it works or not. If it isn't, then the problem is with your motherboard, you need to go to a Service center or call a technician. If in case the external keyboard is working, then, first of all clean the keyboard, update its drivers. I would recommend you to open it apart and check the interfaces with the motherboard.

Now with your battery charging problem, let's assume it's not the culprit, prior to any measures/steps taken, please clean the plug and the jack of the laptop's charging interface and Dc adaptor's plug respectively. Don't forget to clean the interfaces on the battery and on the laptop battery compartment. You can use a soft brush dipped in alcohol/spirit/acetone. After they are dried, reinstall the battery and reconnect the plug. Now power on the mains for the adaptor. If it's working, then the problem is only with the contact points, perhaps rust or prolonged used might caused this.
On the other hand, if the problem persists, you need to boot the laptop without the battery being installed, means only with the power adaptor so that you can find out which one is the root of the issue. Remove battery and power on the System with the dc adaptor connected to the laptop.
You last option is to replace the battery or try with another working battery. Same problem, the your power supply unit is malfunction, you need to call a technician to get it repaired for you. I would suggest you to inspect with every possibilities and call up after you are sure that the problem is with the Power Supply Unit.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi

Try system restore. Go to START>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE>CHOOSE PREVIOUS RESTORE DATES. Use other restore dates if needed.

Or try this

If your laptop keyboard types wrong characters, it is rather a software issue than an hardware one. This can happen if you accidentally press certain keys on your keyboard, which enable a certain kind of function.
Try the following steps in case your laptop keyboard displays wrong characters:
1.Go to the control panel option
Click ? 'Regional and Language Services' ? 'Languages' ? 'Details' ? 'Key Settings'
2.Select the option 'Switch Between Input Languages' and click on 'Change Key Sequence'
3.Ensure that all the check boxes are unchecked in this window and do the same for 'Switch to...(Keyboard Type)'
4.Click ?
'Ok' ? 'Ok' ? 'Apply' ? 'Ok'.
This should solve your problem

You probably activated the "Num Lock" accidently. Just hold down the FN and look for the key that says "num lock" Now you should have your keyboard back and the numbers will just type when you hit the numbers key. I did this to myself yesterday!

Keyboard Malfunction

I suggest you to remove battery.
If this is still not working, your keyboard or motherboard is bad.
Did you spills any liquid on your keyboard ? if you did, probably only your keyboard.
From your explanation, i suspect it's motherboard.

My Acer aspire 3003 keyboard and touchpad both started to lock up recently. I use it with the battery removed, it avoids the problem. The battery wasn't holding much charge anyway.

Acer Aspire 3000 keyboard failing

The problem is the battery as mentioned before. Disabling "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Battery Method" should solve the problem of the keybord and the mouse, this is, because the driver dosen't work properly with a bad battery. I think it fires a lot of hard interruptions that are blocking the keybord and the mouse interruption to the system (each time a key is pressed an interruption is send to the processor... if the battery driver sends a lot of interruptions, the key interruptions don't have time to be processed in time - that explains the fact that the system responds to a key press is that bad)
