Question about Maytag Chassis Built-In Air Conditioner M7X05F2A

Open Question

We have the Maytag M3X05F2D-B and it doesn't cool. It's two years old and has only been used once. I read the troubleshooting section in the manual and none of the suggestions apply. We leave it in our cottage which is unheated in the winter. Could this be the problem? Thanks

I have a 5 year old Maytag bottom freezer/fridge. In the past 3 weeks I have had to thaw it out 2 times to get it to cool. First the refer section will not cool, then a day later the freezer starts to...

Easy fix. Unplug the ice box. Remove the service panel in the freezer. Check the heater and the heater termination thermostat for continuity. NOTE: the termination thermostat must be a 25f or colder to have continuity. If yours is a model which features electronic controls you can perform a heater and termination thermostat pass or fail test using this video.

Refrigerator stopped cooling 2 days ago. Freezer works fine. What is broken? Appliance is four years old. Replaced compressor almost exactly 1 year ago.

Check the fan in the freezer and be sure it's working, isn't blocked by product or isn't clogged with ice. If this fan isn't working the refrigerator section won't cool properly.

My MMV6178AA, comes on but makes a funny buzzing sound, does not heat and has an odd odor when on - it is almost 4 years old.....

There should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

At
our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Some questions to help you or someone you know troubleshoot it:

When you hit "Start" to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

If not, then you probably have a bad door switch or door switch mount and should see these files:

http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

If the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable are all coming on, then the problem is in the high voltage section, and then the next questions arise:

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

If there's no unusual noise, it may just be a bad connection at the magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for high voltage section test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it is NOT shorted or burned looking, it's probably fine)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
(continuity can be good even though mag is bad!)

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.
I'd recommend that your bookmark this link to your favorites.

Accessing some parts may require you to pull the oven from the wall and remove the cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download owner's manuals and installation instructions for several brands (including Amana, Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Litton, Maytag, Roper, Tappan, Thermador and Whirlpool) here.

Does not cool any longer

The number one problem is the capacitor. These newer ones do not contain the PCBs the older ones had and herefore are not as toxic. But they do not holdup as well as the older ones. TY ralph nader. MORE

Maytag french door fridge no cooling in fridge section

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
